The people of Bridgeport rejected appeals by Michelle Rhee’s husband and the mayor, voters said no.
No dice to mayoral control.

I echo Donna. I’m so glad that the residents of Bridgeport got an opportunity to decide this. Who knows- perhaps Michelle and KJ motivated people to vote who may not have done so. I know I would vote the exact opposite if outsiders (especially this pair of unsuccessful and FAILED school administrators) came to my town and what we in DC refer to our schools as “our house” and told me how to vote and how I wasn’t giving up a democratic right. Shoot. In addition to what has happened there over the past year, they must think the people of Bridgeport are simple, stupid or both. Thank god they’re neither. Bravo Bridgeport. Tonight you rock!
And we intend to continue to rock them!
As one who worked on the campaign to reject the Charter question, it was written to deceive the voters: “Shall the City of Bridgeport approve and adopt the Charter changes as recommedned by the Charter Revision Commission and approved by the City Council, including education reforms?” Those last four words incorporated more than 70 changes in the City Charter. The most onerous was the one that should have been clearly spelled out on the ballot “Do the voters of Bridgeport want to give up their right to vote for the Board of Education and allow the Mayor to appoint all nine members?” If the question had been clear, our victory would have been more decisive. Now we research backers of the measure and go on the offensive!
Excuse me, the four words that I should have written were “including school governance reforms”
