Jere Hochman, the superintendent in Bedford, New York, previously acknowledged as a hero of public education on this blog, offers some thoughtful questions for the Presidential debate tonight. Since the topic is foreign affairs, none of these questions is likely to be asked, but surely journalists who encounter the candidates and their surrogates in the days ahead could ask these questions.

Thank you for posting this. A quick sampler that I hope the candidates including Congressional speak to:
Will your Supreme Court selection(s) support principles of equity, social justice, democratic principles, the common good, a level playing field and reinforce that public means public for all.
Will you acknowledge openly and often that excessive testing, evaluating teachers focused on student scores to give teachers scores, vilifying teachers, and other politician’s tactics are impediments, not assets, and that they are detrimental to successful public education for every child? Maybe at your inauguration or swearing in ceremonies?
Will you protect and educate the now well-known 47% of Americans who some claim are a drag on government and society?
Will you acknowledge that PBS and other like-ventures are not about muppets and car talk; they are means of leveling the playing.
Thank you.
Jere
