Dear Readers,
As you know, I have been posting about four to ten blogs every day since I started doing this at the end of April. There are now more than 300 blogs in the archive.
This summer, I am trying to do something I have never done before. I am trying to write a book during the months of July and August. My deadline is Labor Day. I don’t know if I can do this, but I am going to try. The only book that I ever wrote on a short timeline was The Language Police, and that took six months. (My other books took years.) I am now in the realm of “I think I can, I think I can…”
So, to give myself more time to write the book, I plan not to blog on weekends. Maybe I’ll post only three or four blogs a day. I’ll see how it goes. For me, the blogging is so much fun that it is almost irresistible. I love sharing my thoughts, and I love giving voice to teachers and parents through my blog. I think of this blog as my hometown newspaper, but this hometown is not in one geographic spot.
So, please do read the blog on weekends, use it as a time to go into the archives.
And keep reading Monday through Friday.
Diane
Write when you can, but work on the book first. If you drop us some crumbs as you write, I will be satisfied
What is the topic of the new book?
You read pieces of it every day.
Good luck!
excited about the book! weekends will be a good time for readers to peruse and participate in the comments on your blog posts. great conversations and insight. an interactive hometown newspaper!
Let’s get the buzz about this book going right now! Kick butt and take names….Can’t wait!
Best of luck to you Diane!
Good writing!! Look forward to the book. And thanks for allowing teachers, parents, and the rest who don’t normally have a “national” presence to voice their concerns, thoughts, ideas, complaints, etc. . . .
I’m glad to hear that writing a book can take years as that’s what’s happening to me as I sift and sort through all the information, thoughts, directions, etc. . . . I don’t feel quite as much pressure now, but then again I don’t have a publisher and will have to self publish. (I’m sure an editor/publisher would tell me I use too many “etcs. . . “.)
Wow, writing a book on weekends, you are so turbo-charged! It is great to see your writing in this blog — how your style shifts for different subjects and how you pack information in with commentary. Also, how you bring in voices from the commenters on the blog to make new headlines and points. Your blog is a great resource and a model for learning the art of writing and engaging an audience.
Not weekends! I write every day!
I just realized that the time I devote to the blog was taking time away from writing the book.
Diane
I wish you success, a prolific writer’s peace of mind, and an up-and-running text processor every day!
Cheers from Amsterdam in summertime,

Keep us posted Diane…when the book comes out, when you are touring and where…you help me keep my sanity and keep me focused on teaching and learning rather than getting discouraged.
Good luck with the book. I look forward to buying it and spreading the ideas!
Diane,
Looking forward to the book! I’ve thought of writing a book, but wouldn’t know where to start. What is a suggested first step? Starting advice? Any would be appreciated.
You can do it. I look forward to reading it. I always thought turning a blog into a book was a great idea… it is the sign of our times… we are holding up our signs, virtually,,, one blog post and tweet at a time. Godspeed.
