Trump has a new line of malarkey to peddle. He has decided that Democrats are not only “Dumbocrats,” they are Communists.
Trump does not know anything about bipartisanship. He knows nothing about the tradition of treating the other party with respect. He knows only how to dish out insults and ridicule.
He always has to stir up his base by having someone to hate. Communists are a good target.
When he spoke at Mount Rushmore on July 3, he warned about a “communist menace,” a threat posed by the election of two Democratic Socialists in New York City and one in Denver, Colorado.
- He said, “There is now a resurgence of the communist menace in our land.”
- He added, “You can be a communist, or you can be a patriot. You cannot be both.”
- He described communism as “a mortal threat to American liberty,” and argued that Americans must defend the country’s founding principles against it.
Again, at his late-night speech on July 4, he warned about the danger of the Communist threat.
Among his statements were:
- “Our warriors did not fight communism on battlefields across the world, only to have that menace rear its ugly head right back here in America.”
- He added, “It’s like a cancer, you got to cut it out.”
- He also declared that America “will never be a communist country“.
Democrats are not Communists.
Democratic Socialists are not Communists. They are Democratic Socialists like Senator Bernie Sanders and like the parties in Northern European nations such as Sweden, Denmark, and Finland. These are nations that spend generously for the health, education, and welfare of their citizens.
Does Trump know the distinction between Democratic Socialists and Communists? It’s hard to know since his knowledge is not expansive.
But he has his target. He will use smear tactics. He will fulminate about the “communist menace,” and about others who “don’t love America” as he allegedly does.
After all these years, we know who he is and we know he will lie without hesitation.
Be prepared. He is desperate.

Because of these far right fools and extreme libertarians, the USA is the only wealthy advanced nation without universal health care and tuition free higher education. Bernie Sanders has been screaming about this for years. As noted above, McCarthyism is alive and well in America.

Democratic socialists are not actually socialists either. They generally believe in capitalism for most commerce, but they believe some services are more efficient and less expensive if sponsored by the government. If people are going to get confused by loaded terms, maybe they would avoid some confusion by calling themselves social democrats as they do in some places in the EU, particularly Nordic nations. People should realize we already have a certain amount of government sponsored social programs in most police and fire departments, public education, libraries, the military, and construction of various public projects like bridges, roads, etc. There is nothing “radical” in consolidating resources to provide a cost effective service to the public without requiring the public to pay for other people’s profit.
Trump cares little about facts. He will exaggerate and use the word communist to try to rekindle “the red scare.” The GOP operates on instilling fear of the “other.” The terms immigrants, Black people and communists all serve Trump as political scare tactics.

This is a prime example of the failure to learn history condemning us to repeat it, to paraphrase the famous quote by Santayana. If people were even just educated on the basics of the McCarthy Era, they could be a bit more resistant to the ignorant demagoguery that Trump & his acolytes are now trying to revive about Communism.
And regarding my fellow Retired Teacher’s comment above–how about switch the moniker to Social Democrats instead of Democratic Socialists. That’s what they’re called in many other countries with multiple parties. It takes away the term Socialist, which ignorant, misleading or lying Righties use to scare many of their uninformed constituents. Here’s the difference—the first one, which I think is more logical & acceptable to the masses vs the second one which scares people much more:
• Social Democrats: Seek to tame and regulate capitalism by establishing strong social safety nets.
• Democratic Socialists: Seek to fundamentally dismantle capitalism and replace it with a socialist economic system where workers democratically control the means of production.

When I drive to and fro, I listen to “Real Talk Radio” a hardcore xtian nationalist fundie broadcast station (gotta keep in touch with what they are spouting). In the last couple of weeks they have been referring to the “socialist communist party formally known as the Democrats.” Not just one of the broadcasters but all. My comments are “that’s a lie” “wrong” “horseshit” “oh how very christ-like of you”. Those people have little sense of “fair and balanced”.
The sad part is that far too many listen and agree with the idiocies spouted.
