Trump signed an executive order demanding the defunding of public television (PBS) and National Public Radio (NPR).
Since both are a valuable source of news and information about science, politics, history, nature, significant people and events, their defunding would be a great loss for the American people.
Why does Trump hate PBS?
His hatred originated on Sesame Street in 1988, where he was portrayed as Ronald Grump, a developer who planned to build a huge high-rise building on the site of Sesame Street.

Whatever tRump hates can be traced to some sort of slight. It is why he hated Obama, the Correspondents Dinner. Any small slight, he never forgets them. He is so thin skinned and petty, and has a memory like an elephant. He does not forget! Ever.

Yes, the Correspondents Dinner. Trump’s scowling facial expression showed that a seething contempt and raw hatred of Obama was eating him up on the inside. One could almost see Trump’s mind formulating a plan to hit back at Obama.

Trump has a huge well of grievance.
This is how he connects to ordinary people.
They feel cheated.
He feels cheated.
They think they can trust him because they share grievance.
Yet he has selected a cabinet stacked with billionaires. They have no sense of grievance. Without hesitation, they will cut health care and benefits that the regular guy relies on.

I wish this right wing propaganda about Trump hating Obama because of that Correspondents’ dinner could be put to rest. It just feeds into the lie that Trump had a reason beyond his extreme racism and jealousy to go after Obama. He did not. Trump hates Obama because Obama was Black and president and popular. Period.
Trump was leader of the Birther movement BEFORE the correspondents’ dinner. Trump used his tv celebrity and the attention the fawning media gave him to rile up anti-Obama hate among racists everywhere and confirm to them that the president they despised because he was Black was illegitimate and their hate was justified.
Trump was attacking Obama viciously – with lies – BEFORE the correspondents’ dinner. Obama was ignoring Trump’s ugly, racist, violence-provoking lies about his illegitimate presidency but that didn’t stop Trump from continuing to spew them and spew them.
And finally, at the correspondents’ dinner, Obama decided not to just keep taking it – when it was already clear that Trump would continue to foment violence and hate against Obama because of Trump’s extreme hatred and racism. Obama finally responded, not with anger and lies like Trump does, but with humor.
The blatant lie that while Trump was FIRST spewing all his hate and lies about Obama’s illegitimacy, Trump really liked Obama, and if only Obama would have continued to shut up and not respond to Trump’s nasty, hate filled attacks on him, Trump would have continued to “prove” he didn’t actually hate Obama by continuing to spew hate and lies at Obama, is absurd.
It is unwittingly feeding into dishonest right wing propaganda. “Trump only acts this way because Obama provoked him at the correspondents’ dinner”.
It’s depressing to see that false narrative embraced as truth here. The power of the right wing media to propagandize all of us is very dangerous.
Trump’s anger at the correspondents’ dinner was not because it was Obama but because NO ONE is allowed to say anything critical about Trump but he is allowed to say and do whatever nasty thing he wants to whoever he wants.
But Trump was always going to foment extreme hate and violence against Obama whether Obama finally called it out with humor, or acted like other victims and ignored it.
Isn’t it long past time for all of us to understand that ignoring Trump’s attacks and lies like the mainstream media did for years and continues to do just gives those lies a lot more credibility?
Giving in to Trump’s attacks and lies has made Trump MORE powerful and MORE hateful. As the news media learned, giving in to him instead of fighting back is not suddenly going to make Trump like you and stop viciously attacking. Trump will continue with his attacks, just like he did when Obama ignored him instead of fighting back.
Trump does this because people DON’T fight back. Not because they finally do. As Obama finally did at the correspondents’ dinner, when he realized remaining silent wasn’t going to stop Trump’s hate and it wasn’t going to “provoke” a hate because that hate already existed and it was already in plain sight for everyone to see.
This is like a bully constantly attacking his victim, and after weeks of it the victim responds, and people say “oh that’s why the bully did it, the victim provoked him. If only the victim would have continued to let the bully attack him without responding, then the nice bully who has been attacking him for weeks with no signs of ever stopping wouldn’t hate him so much.”
Facts matter. At least they used to.

Why does trump hate pbs and npr? 1) they are for kids who just enjoy being kids and childhood. 2) they are “intellectual” and what people curious and interested in watch and listen to. 3) If they are experts on anything, then he’s not. 4)
