Something astonishing happened at the United Nations today. Ukraine sponsored a resolution condemning Russia’s invasion of Ukraine three years ago. The General Assembly overwhelmingly voted for the resolution.
The resolution was opposed, however, by Russia, North Korea, Iran, the United States, and 24 other Russian allies.
The United States voted with Russia, North Korea, Iran and 14 other Moscow-friendly countries Monday against a U.N. resolution condemning Russian aggression in Ukraine and calling for the return of Ukrainian territory. The resolution, sponsored by representatives from Kyiv, passed overwhelmingly in the U.N. General Assembly.
The U.S. delegation also abstained from voting on its own competing resolution that simply called for an end to the war, after European-sponsored amendments inserting new anti-Russian language in the resolution were approved in the 193-member body by a wide margin. The amended U.S. resolution also passed.
Did the American people vote last November to abandon our allies and to create a new partnership with Russia, North Korea, and Iran?
In other news:
Trump renamed the Gulf of Mexico. He says it is henceforward “the Gulf of America.” Frankly, this is the sort of meaningless BS that he manufactures to please his base. It doesn’t lower the price of eggs. It’s pointless. when Trump is gone, the Gulf of Mexico will be the undisputed Gulf of Mexico.
The Associated Press has continued to call the Gulf of Mexico by its rightful name.
So Trump had to punish the AP. Its reporters have been barred from White House press conferences and from flying with Trump on Air Force 1 with the press pool.
The AP sued to regain access, citing the First Amendment. The judge did not grant their request. He expressed doubt that they would prevail. He will hold another hearing on March 20.
Judge Trevor McFadden told the court there were several reasons he denied the temporary restraining order. He noted there was a difference in the issues of this case and case law presented by both parties.
He also questioned the amount of irreparable harm the AP would suffer as the news outlet can get access to the same information whether or not they’re in the room where it happened, he argued.
Right. They can always watch the press conference on television. They just can’t ask questions or ride with the press pool on Air Force 1.
Judge McFadden was appointed by President Trump in 2017.

When a country is led by dictators like Vlad, Kim, Ali Khamenei, and FELON45, the January 6, 2021, Traitor, those countries do not vote, because the subjugated people in those countries have no voice. The dictators are the ones that voted. They rule by fiat with a brutal regime of oppressors supporting them who ruthlessly crush any resistance.
The population of the US didn’t vote. A sociopath did.

Which sociopath? Musk, Trump, or Putin? I think they probably all had a hand in making the outcome of the election exactly what they wanted it to be –for the second time. I suspect that President Musk and his young gang of department vandals and information bandits first set out to hunt down all evidence of how the election was purchased & stolen for Mr-dictator-is-not-enough-King-wannabe TWO Times. We may never know for sure though since their intention was to delete all proof of everything hinky when he ran for office, but especially for the 1st and 3rd elections. (Clearly they were not up on their game in his second attempt.)

At this point I should not be shocked or surprised at the vileness, depravity and disingenuousness of the Trump disadministration but this vote at the UN was a shocker. Vidkun Quisling had more honor and integrity than the traitor-in-chief. Trump should be impeached and thrown out of office but that’s not going to happen with the GOP in control and with so many Trump judicial appointees.

We can thank Mitch McConnell for all the Trump judges. Plus his refusal to impeach and convict after the insurrection.

And ALEC, and Alito, etc. and spineless GOPers, and the failures of public education over the long run–where your own insights of change were not heeded by enough people who could have created their own “fork in the road.” And then there is the religious right on God steroids. . . .and on and on and on.

How tragic the ending of our nation as we know it is turning out to be, even though people like me, who are nobody special really, saw it all coming, felt a duty to warn and tried to tell voters. As predicted by many of us, now he’s placed us on the side of our traditional adversaries. It just keeps getting worse, and this is only the beginning because nobody in the GOP is willing to stand up to this wretched dictator-king.
Like I’ve said before, our only hope is the courts that he does not control. Give him time and he’ll appoint more toadies like McFadden to the bench though.
G-d how I wish I could afford to move abroad to a country that was amongst our allies for many decades –until today!

I’ve known for a long time that the GOP is bad news for the common man, but is there no line that their dictator-king crosses which is out of bounds for Republicans? Does he have to actually shoot someone in the middle of 5th Avenue for them to come to their senses and say enough is enough? Do power and money mean so much more to them than our Constitution, our democracy, the rule of law and ethics, or are they just plain old cowards bending to the playground bully?
Maybe it’s all of that, but I think they’ve failed to anticipate how being primaried is likely to increase the chances of Democrats winning the midterms, which is typical when a president comes to power. And the midterms are now not even 2 years away, so most people will not be forgetting what he and his party put Americans through in less than two months time! UGH!!!

I like what JB Pritzker said in his State of the State address:
“I just have one question: What comes next? After we’ve discriminated against, deported or disparaged all the immigrants and the gay and lesbian and transgender people, the developmentally disabled, the women and the minorities – once we’ve ostracized our neighbors and betrayed our friends – After that, when the problems we started with are still there staring us in the face – what comes next?”
“All the atrocities of human history lurk in the answer to that question. And if we don’t want to repeat history – then for God’s sake in this moment we better be strong enough to learn from it.”
And the question I always ask is what country will welcome Americans when we are fleeing our country because of poverty, political oppression, chaos and misery? What country indeed.

JB Pritzker is a billionaire, but hands down he is THE best of the best governors!!! Fortunately, Democrats have a number of other great governors today, too!

I feel ill.

FLERP!, I’ve been taking my blood pressure all the time since the pandemic because we were logging our temps before heading into school so I was, like, hey, why not do something useful with this new requirement. It’s a habit now.
My blood pressure has gone up 10 points since January 20.
So, yeah, the carpet bombing of our government is making people ill.
And, wait until the G.O.P. slashes Medicaid etc…. At least I have my government pension and benefits.
But we’ve seen this death spiral swirling all around us for years. An article in The Atlantic I just read estimated that 320,000 Americans lost their lives unnecessarily to COVID-19 because of the botched government response including in large part the anti-vaxxers.
And our country just voted for more death.

Changing topics a bit. Since the Election I have been on overload. The most benign thoughts I have are praying for the 1/42 chance of a Tunguska size event. I can’t make up my mind whether I should be praying for the asteroid to land in Moscow where the Boss live or a little closer to home where his puppet resides.
That said I have limited my viewing of media. Reading the headlines on Diane’s Blog and on Substack is already enough to make me regurgitate my morning Coffee while I listen to Katherine Stewart’s new book. … .
So here is a question. Are the media still running those endless stories of families in Texas who go through 9 gallons of milk a week and can’t afford to feed the kids. Or the Station owner in Jersey with a 2003 Escalade and a 73 Camero who has to work 15 hrs a week overtime, just to gas the cars.
Or has the price of Eggs, milk, gas and housing come down since Trump came to office?

Interesting article,
Speaking of “a Tunguska size event”, I woke up this morning wondering, hmmm, what could happen unexpectedly to mix this whole disastrous mess up further -for the much worse or… maybe better?
The unknown unknowns, black swans, assorted wild cards and dark horses….
I remember when “Little Rocket Man” was the big deal over there in North Korea. Or, more recently, the “mystery” drones cruising malevolently above New Jersey.
Eventually, global climate change will wallop us but good.

Now Trump and Little Rocket Man stand arm-in-arm with Russia.
Note that Trump has never ever belittled Putin. I wonder why.

But what’s the excuse of all the other Republicans?
