And what we learn from this is —
Yes, it is possible for a whole nation to go insane —
And, yes, it can happen here …

      Jon,

      Chilling.

I visited Auschwitz about 15 years ago. It’s a grim place. The sign still hangs at the entrance: Arbeit Mach Frei.

I saw that sign, which essentially means “Work Makes Freedom,” at the entrance way for prisoners of Dachau, too. That was the first concentration camp that the Nazis created, and I believe the same sign was at the entrance of all the other camps as well.

The Anne Frank quote is also very fitting now because yesterday was International Holocaust Remembrance Day.

That’s just some pidgin German I made up, but Google translate does manage to render it as “Do a good job, then&rdquo. Chilling enough in context.

    Juntos Seguros means Safe Together.

It WAS a website helping undocumented immigrants in the U.S. by allowing people to anonymously report sightings of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers or raids.

When we were able to visit this site, we saw Citizens from all over the USA.

Posting I.C.E. Raid details, dates and timeframe.

Reports were coming in from Des Moines Iowa, Lake Worth Beach Florida, Columbus Ohio, Gettysburg Pennsylvania and Beyond.

Is your hometown being raided? Probably because DJT has ordered a round-up quota of 1,500 per day! But Juntos Seguros has just been SHUTDOWN so good citizens will have to find other online avenues for reporting/warning/protecting.

Yes, the local news reported last evening that it just happened in my blue city and state, too.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents launched “enhanced targeted operations” in the Dallas-Fort Worth area on Sunday 1/26/25. A spokesperson said this signals an escalation ordered by President Donald Trump as part of his administration’s efforts to tighten immigration enforcement.

The arrests primarily took place in Dallas, Irving, Arlington, Fort Worth, Garland and Collin County. Federal agents detained 84 people of “varying degrees of criminality.” Jaywalking? Parking Tickets? Expired License Plates? Unpaid child support?

They are stopping & interrogating Native Americans on The Reservation.

Time To Remember The Sanctuary Movement. It was a religious and political campaign in the United States that began in the early 1980s to provide safe haven for Central American refugees fleeing civil conflict. The movement was a response to federal immigration policies that made obtaining asylum difficult for Central Americans.

At its peak, Sanctuary involved over 500 congregations in the United States, which, by declaring themselves official “sanctuaries,” committed to providing shelter, protection, material goods and often legal advice to Central American refugees. Various denominations were involved, including Lutherans, United Church of Christ, Roman Catholics, Eastern Orthodox, Presbyterians, Methodists, Baptists, Jews, Unitarian Universalists, Quakers, and Mennonites.

Movement members acted both in defiance of federal laws and as citizens upholding laws they thought their government was violating. Several prominent Sanctuary figures were arrested and put on trial in the mid-1980s, including its two “founders”, John Fife and James A. Corbett. The movement’s historical roots derive from the right of sanctuary in medieval law and Jewish and Christian social teachings. Its contemporary roots derive from the American Civil War and its Underground Railroad as well as the sanctuaries offered to conscientious objectors during the Vietnam War.

I didn’t think that law enforcement outside of reservation law enforcement was legal on tribal lands. Does anyone know how that works?

It was happening a month ago too. Maybe not to the same extent, but maybe had something been done then to stop it and codify protections for vulnerable people, we wouldn’t be in the situation we are now.

Your logic speaks for itself. Is your point that if trans people had been given more protections already, Trump Republicans would not be able to severely punish them, erase them from existence and encourage violence against them (knowing Trump will pardon those who act out against anyone he doesn’t like). Imagine a trans person listening to some guy lecturing to them about how grateful they should be to the people who fought so hard to defeat Democrats, because the Dems just didn’t do enough for trans people.

I love how “maybe not to the same extent” is the way normalizers of evil justify their complicity.

Love how Orwellian it is for people without any compassion to write “maybe not to the same extent”

There was certainly antisemitism in Germany before the Nazis took over – “maybe not to the same extent”.

Complicit Germans excusing the Nazis by saying that 6 million Jews died not because the Nazis killed them, but because the opposition government and everyone who tried to keep the Nazis from power didn’t do enough to codify protections for Jews before the Nazis took over.

Newsflash: There are going to be protections for NO ONE because of the complicit folks who kept saying that life under Republican rule will be no worse than life under Democrat rule. And for people who excuse whatever Trump and his fascists do, that could be true. Unless you are trans or belong to any other group that Trump’s “very best people” decide should no longer exist.

What are Democrats doing right now? Throwing up their hands because Trump is president and Republicans control both houses, so there’s nothing they can do? Have they even tried to oppose Trump? Have they tried to ease the suffering in any meaningful way?

Any suggestions, Dienne, other than criticism? The attorney generals of every blue state are going to court to fight Trump’s orders. What should members of Congress do? Elections have consequences. People who whined about Kamala get what they wanted: a Trump presidency. Did you see that Hegseth’s first phone call as Secretary of Defense was to Netanyahu to assure him of Trump’s support?

They haven’t even attempted to block a single Trump appointee. That would be the smallest of starts.

BTW, if you’re point is that Democrats are helpless, I’m failing to see why I should vote for them.

Please don’t vote for Democrats, Dienne.

Just remember, as I have told you before, that every election in this country at the top is a choice between two parties.

All of your criticism is directed always to the Democrat, never to Trump. By voting third party or not voting, you helped Trump. Now you own what he does to our rights.

if you’re [sic] point is that Democrats are helpless, I’m failing to see why I should vote for them.”

Democrats are not “helpless” when they win significant majorities, which is why states with DEMOCRATS in power are far less anti-trans, while states where Republicans still control either the legislature or Governorship are terrible for trans people. The MORE the Republicans have total power, the MORE anti-trans they are. If you can’t even acknowledge that truth, then that speaks for itself.

It’s amazing how your concern and compassion for Palestinians, trans people, and immigrants has disappeared ever since you got your wish and “defeated” the evil Democrats. You never mention the harm done to them except to do as you did here and continue to blame the Dems for “not stopping” the Republicans.

You chose to devote yourself to defeating Democrats, and excusing anti-trans, anti-Palestinian, anti-immigrant Republicans.

Is there a difference between the states where Republicans have full control, and states where Democrats have full control? NOT TO YOU. Because your hatred has blinded you to truth. The truth is that trans people are much more in danger in states run totally by REPUBLICANS.

I see Democrat Governors like Andy Beshear and Pritzker defending trans people, and Republican Governors and Republican legislatures all over the country doing great harm. And folks like you trying to defeat Democrats with lies about how it’s Dems fault, not Republicans.

“More states are pushing to stop legally recognizing trans people in public life: Proposed bills would exclude transgender and nonbinary people from updating driver’s licenses, holding public office and accessing public restrooms.” The 19th, 1/24/25

NONE of those states are states where Democrats have a significant majority in the legislature and a Democratic Governor. But you seem to be more determined to defeat Democrats instead of defeating more anti-trans, anti-Palestinian Republicans, and that is shocking to me.

If you believe that a extremely Red state where the Democrats have virtually no power is no worse than living in an extremely Blue state, where Republicans have little power, then that reveals a lot about you. And what does and does not matter to you.

Republicans are doing outrageous things, and you just keep Trump-splaining to us that it’s really the Democrats’ fault.

And the spineless Democrats are doing nothing more than whine about it. They complain, but they *DO **nothing.* Former Republican Representative Adam Kinzinger, who lost his place in congress for speaking out against the neofascists, continues to speak out and contemptuously calls Democrats “crickets” because they chirp and chirp, but *DO **nothing*. They are beneath contempt.

Most of these raids are just cruel and heartless. Ice should focus on murderers, drug dealers and rapists and leave those with parking tickets alone. It is vile to target a family over a parking violation.
