When Robert F. Kennedy Jr. abandoned his independent campaign and endorsed Trump, Trump offered him any job he wanted. He wanted a role in public health.
The New York Times reported:
Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who President-elect Donald J. Trump has suggested would have a “big role” in his second administration, wasted no time laying out potential public health measures he would oversee if given the chance.
Mr. Kennedy, an environmental lawyer who has no medical or public health degrees and has promoted anti-vaccine conspiracies for years, told NBC News on Wednesday that he would not “take away anybody’s vaccines,” but that he wanted Americans to be informed with the “best information” available so they “can make individual assessments about whether that product is going to be good for them.”
“People ought to have choice,” he said, adding that he has “never been anti-vaccine.”
Mr. Kennedy has been a prominent critic of the childhood vaccination schedule and has frequently linked some vaccines to autism and other health issues. Studies have long shown no such connection.
On the topic of adding fluoride to drinking water, which helps to protect teeth, Mr. Kennedy said the mineral was “lowering I.Q. in our children,” despite decades’ worth of studies that show its efficacy and safety.
“I think fluoride is on its way out,” he said. “I think the faster that it goes out, the better. I’m not going to compel anybody to take it out, but I’m going to advise the water districts about their legal liability.”
The treatment of public water with small amounts of fluoride has been widely hailed as one of the most important public health interventions of the past century; the American Dental Association has said that it reduces dental decay by at least 25 percent.
Mr. Kennedy also said that if he were given a position in Mr. Trump’s administration, he would focus on eliminating corruption at public health agencies like the Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Some departments, including those focused on nutrition, “have to go,” he told NBC. “They’re not protecting our kids.”
“Once Americans are getting good science and allowed to make their own choices, they’re going to get a lot healthier,” he added.
As president, Mr. Trump would have only limited authority to make some of these changes, and some would need congressional approval. But on the campaign trail, Mr. Trump said he would let Mr. Kennedy “go wild on health.”
“I want to be in the White House, and he has assured me that I’m going to have that,” Mr. Kennedy said this week.

Riffing on an old critique of his uncle Ted (Edward Moore Kennedy): if he werenot a Kennedy but simply Robert “Frankie-Boy” Francis, Jr., from Southie, he’d be living in a refrigerator carton and shouting obscenities at passersby real and imagined.

It is so very, very sad to watch RFK junior, with all his problems, making a joke of the great Kennedy name. My first vote for President was for his uncle, Jack. And my life was changed by the life and assassination of his father, Robert–Bobby–Kennedy. When Bobby was killed, weeks after another hero, ML King, was killed, some of us vowed to continue their work. I chose to go into the teacher-union-building taking place in Columbus, Ohio and elsewhere. I’m still on the path–trying to “stand” for “hope” for which Robert Senior stood. Junior is “sad.” It makes me a little sad to see him. Let’s hope he isn’t allowed to destroy vaccinations–which kept so many of us from polio and other diseases.

We now have Trump with his Trump Deranged Syndrome (TDS), JD Vance, and Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. These three musketeers who have their rapiers and daggers out with plans to do as much damage to democracy as possible. Life under three clowns and whoever else Trump brings for Cabinet will definitely make life very difficult for many people in this country and possibly the rest of the world. Of course we have to throw into the ugly mix, M.T. Green, Mitch McConnell, Ted Cruz, Abbitt in Texas, Desantis in Florida, etc., etc. then God help the people of the world — if God is even listening. In Florida, the head of the State’s Health Department is anti-vaccination. Now we have RFK, Jr. to lead the US Health Department.
There are so many people in this country who willingly fall all over themselves believing every word that comes out of these individuals mouths. The health care and level of health in population in this country is not rated very high considering we are supposed to be one of the wealthiest countries on this planet. The infant mortality rate, for example, does not even compare positively with other countries. Now, I am afraid, it is going to be even worse. I don’t like being negative but what happened with Trump and the covid-19 pandemic does not give me much hope. If Obama Care is thrown out by Trump without a great replacement then I am positive the health care for the elderly, poor, infants, and women will definitely go in a negative direction.
It is going to be a long rough four year ride in this country. Just hang on and make the best of it.

Actually the third musketeer is Elon Musk. The still CONVICTED FELON is the head cheese that has not been refrigerated for years now and stinks to high heaven.

If there is a super-intelligent, alien lifeform out there watching us from deep space, this sure would be a good opportunity for their intervention -assuming they want to help humans.
If their intentions are malevolent, God help us.
Or, if AI is in fact barreling towards “the singularity”, wouldn’t wised up machines want to head off planetary climate crisis, if just for their own survival?
Please AI, make it stop. (This coming from a guy who is still carrying a flip phone.)
Seriously, the cult of MAGA appears to be on track for its own Mao-esque level of lunacy and deep destruction.
Could a dearth of real science during trump 2.0 lead to our own absurd, devastating moments? Mao had peasants trying to make steel in their own backyard blast furnaces. What nuttiness do we have in store for us, come January 2025?
Who needs experts and expertise? It’ll be DIY health care gone wild.
Mao’s red army rounded up egg heads and other enemies of the people. Though I can’t imagine trump’s “enemy within” being paraded through the shady lanes of Ohio. (When was the last time you saw a dunce cap on someone?) Maybe trumpsters will start carrying little orange books. Hell, some decided to wear garbage bags last week; sweaty trump suits. Haven’t we been here so many horrible, horrible times before?
Our shiny new millennium is looking pretty haggard so far. It’s the same, old human playbook just amped up digitally. Sure, the techniques will be much more subtle. It’s 2024, not 1984. But a quarter way through a new century and look how far we’ve come… Project 2025!? Can’t we do better. (I imagine a cheerleading squad yelling, “Go human beings!)
Yeah, I’m trying to remind myself not to hate members of my species. Because you become what you hate.
And the trump cultists have become just like what they purport to loath….communists. Welcome to now and our own podcast mob.

If wise, ETs should be heading the other way. If they land after January 20, 2025, they’d be rounded up as illegal aliens and disappear into concentration camps.
If they land anyway, I suggest they try Finland or Norway to make contact.

Great episode.
Hard to believe that black-and-white sci fi from way back is so accurately describing 2024.
I’ve been reminded lately of the film Invasion of the Body Snatchers as people around me cheer on trump the autocrat lover and protector of women, no matter how they feel about it.
America made a grotesque and depraved decision on Tuesday . And we’re about to witness Stanley Milgrim’s famous obedience to authority experiment come to life, but for real, writ large across an entire nation.
Interesting coincidence that The Monsters are Due on Maple Street episode and the Milgrim experiment are from same era, the early 1960s.
