A few days ago, I joined a discussion with Dr. Tim Slekar and Dr. Johnny Lupinacci about the current state of public education. It was aired on their show “Busted Pencils,” which is dedicated to teachers, students, and public schools.
We talked about charters, vouchers, testing, and how to get involved. Everyone can stand up for what they believe.

Thanks for another good interview with a intro from music by “Rage Against the Machine,” maybe a little incongruous, but appropriate. Unfortunately, for democratic loving supporters of public education, the evil billionaires had too much time on their hands to ponder how to destroy public education during Covid. Since the push for vouchers is happening in tandem in red states, I assume the ultra-wealthy realized they could hide behind Citizens United and bribe their way into getting politicians to do their bidding. Abbott in Texas persists in trying to force resistant communities to adopt vouchers despite repeated failed votes. Jeffrey Yass and the Texas oilmen have given Abbott a bundle of cash to deliver vouchers for them, and he dares not disappoint them.

you raise an interesting point in this interview that reminds me of an encounter I had with a guy last Christmas. You said you didn’t get why people who live in poor states voted for Republicans. My encounter illustrates why.
The guy I met was a truck driver turned truck mechanic. He was a really good guy who had adopted several children over the course of his life. We discussed social problems a bit, and I suggested that he sounded like he could support a democrat, given their stance on all the issues he raised. He differed very vehemently. Democrats wanted high taxes, abortion, and wanted to destroy religion.
now you know. Republicans fan the flames of fear. He is afraid of losing support for religious culture. He fears the other.
