Mike Miles is asking the Texas Education Agency to allow him to recruit uncertified teachers, principals, and deans. This move follows the Broadie playbook that education experience doesn’t matter. Broadies are known for their love of TFA. Miles may be reaching even lower since uncertified teachers do not require a college degree.
Houston ISD is seeking board approval this month for a waiver from the Texas Education Agency to hire uncertified deans and assistant principals for the next three years.
This follows the district asking for state approval to have an uncertified superintendent and uncertified teachers.
HIRING HUNDREDS HISD to seek TEA approval to hire uncertified teachers to fill classroom vacancies
The HISD Board of Managers is set to meet Thursday evening for a work session, where they’ll discuss the agenda for the board’s regular Aug. 10 meeting. Next week, the board is expected to vote on whether to approve an application for a certification waiver to employ assistant principals and deans without a certification through the 2025-2026 school year.
To be an assistant principal in Texas, an educator must have a certificate as an administrator, assistant principal, mid-management administrator, principal or superintendent.
Texas no longer issues an assistant principal certification, but the requirements for a principal certification in Texas include a master’s degree, a valid classroom teaching certificate, two years of teaching experience, and completion of a principal educator preparation program and two principal certification exams.
According to the TEA, districts can request a teacher certification waiver for someone to serve as a principal or assistant principal if an education does not currently hold a state certification. The request needs board approval before it is submitted to TEA for review and approval.
The board’s Thursday agenda also includes the topics of teacher vacancies and teacher certification waivers. In addition to a waiver for principals and deans, the district is seeking to waive Texas certification requirements for teachers to reduce vacancies on campuses before the school year begins.

“In 2019, the Central United Talmudical Academy tested 1,000 boys in reading and math. All failed.” There are 50,000 students in the system covering Brooklyn and Lower Hudson valley. “Most teachers at these particular yeshivas don’t have teaching certificates or even high school diplomas.” A characteristic of the schools is boys and girls go to separate schools.
Education and religion when put together make a bad mix for development of intellectual skills. The schools influenced by religious sect pose a risk to democracy and societal advancement.
Thirty percent of Catholic schools are single sex. A separation of sexes as a characteristic of schools, should lead to examination of the underlying motivations and the ramifications.

This is ludicrous. I hear people complaining about our education system in this country. I guess allowing people to teach and be education administrators without the proper requirements is our solution. Think about the reason why we might have a teacher shortage, do you think salary has anything to do with it? We should try to solve the problem of our educators shortage rather than create another problem It’s evident the value we place on education in this country.

Miles is a Broadie. They think they know it all, and they only fall upward. “They don’t need no stinkin’ credentials.”

Miles is a Broadie and a former military type who knows nothing about what it takes to manage a classroom filled with children.
Treating children as if they are Marine Corps recruits in boot camp won’t work. Even if he ignores the parents that complain, that will only cause more anger among parents that do not want their children treated like that. If his primary goal is to drive children out of public schools into the hands of charters, he will succeed. Then once those same children are treated the same way in those charter schools, there will be an uproar among parents.
What do fascists like Miles do then, order the police or troops to arrest and or shoot those protesting parents — probably. Isn’t that what fascists do to hold on to power? Have anyone that doesn’t fall into line executed or tossed in prison for any reason, even farting. Look at how many years Putin’s rivals get for being a rival for the power he holds. They get murdered or sent to prison for decades.
The most important skills I learned while earning my teaching credential was how to manage my classroom. Since the teaching program I was in was an urban residency, I spent an entire year, full time, in a master teacher’s 5th grade classroom learning what that meant the hard way. She started me out working with small groups and by the end of the year had me teaching her class. To maintain control in a classroom so you can teach, simply put, you have to be nice without being nice and tread every student like an individual, not like a platoon of Marine Corps recruits.
What I learned from my master teacher served me for the next 29 years until I retired in 2005. If you cannot manage your classroom as humanely as possible without using bully tactics treating children like Marine Corps drill instructors treat recruits in boot camp, you will fail as a teacher. It doesn’t matter how knowledgeable you are in the area you teach. You will fail. The kids will eat you alive.

Two years of teaching experience. What a joke! A bad one at that. The minimum should be ten years of teaching experience. No wonder adminimals do as adminimals do.

The two year requirement just means you get the ones who tried teaching and couldn’t hack it as teachers.

Hire uncertified school administrators who don’t know how to handle problems, and watch the scandals begin! If this passes, we can all expect Houston to be on the wrong side of the news for a long time. The Broad playbook ruins lives in the most attention grabbing ways.
