Mehdi Hassan of MSNBC writes here about Ron DeSantis’ lies about Florida’s COVID deaths.
DeSantis is an advocate of herd immunity, although he was not at the start of the pandemic. To woo the hard-right base of the GOP, he turned Florida into a state that opposed mandates for masks and vaccines. He found a surgeon general who agreed with him. He placed the economy above the lives of Floridians.

DeSantis is a serial manipulative liar whose ambitions outpace his talent. New York, California and Florida are large diverse states, and each were hit hard by Covid. When we look at data post vaccines, we can see that Florida did worse after vaccines in part due to DeSantis’ anti-mask and vaccine campaign. Without a doubt people that blindly followed DeSantis died from Covid unnecessarily, particularly in the most vulnerable elderly population.

So lets look at the 2 leading Republican candidates; first Trump, loser, criminally indicted on 38 federal counts and a sure bet for many more, convicted sex abuser, convicted swindler, opens his mouth and proves his guilt like no other (a defense lawyers nightmare).
Next is DeSantis, wanna be Trump ( working really hard to be worse than Trump), brags about COVID laws that kill more people than the “Woke” states he hates so much, book banner extraordinaire, extreme advocate of killing free speech, and signed a law against Immigtants that is going to cripple the Ag industry in Florida (higher prices for us)
The rest of the world watches, scared of Trump (better be scared of DeSantis too). An uncertain future. More importantly, we are losing their trust and respect and that emboldens Russia and China which is dangerous for us. MAGA think this is good for us. What a mess

Something is horribly wrong with our laws when a person can be convicted of a felony, sent to prison, and still serve as president. This left me speechless! I suppose our founding fathers never envisioned this as a possibility. OMG. The question then becomes, can he legally be prohibited from running/serving for office as part of a plea deal or punishment if convicted.

Ben Read Amendment XIII of The U.S. Constitution Section 3, especially the “out” at the end.
“No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. But Congress may by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability.”

If you don’t want a leader to behave as a king, you specifically restrict their powers. you certainly don’t give them the kind of open ended powers that the Foundering Fathers gave the president.
As we have seen, impeachment as a mechanism to limit the powers of the president is basically a joke and it didn’t take a genius to see that that would be the case.

Yet another thing that the Foundering Fathers failed to consider: a Supreme Court that puts party loyalty before the Constitution.

Not only did the state knowingly subject the elderly and otherwise vulnerable to a deadly pandemic, but it then sent armed thugs with drawn guns into the home of a state employee who dared share the state’s true Covid numbers. Guns drawn with her children present.

1.1 million Americans died of COVID.
Millions of lives were saved by the vaccines. Remember Trump’s Operation Warp Speed. Don’t you give Trump credit for the speedy development of the vaccines? He took the vaccine. So did Melania. Barron too.
