After a federal judge told a transgender girl that she had to dress as a boy for her graduation ceremony, the senior skipped the event.
L.B., as she was known in court, had been dressing as a girl for the four years of high school. The school told her she would not be allowed to participate unless she dressed as a boy. The ACLU of Mississippi went to court on her behalf. Her request was rejected by the judge, a Trump appointee.

The stifling, stigmatizing right wing are a threat to democracy and decency. Their idea of “freedom” is to threaten, belittle, judge, target, restrict and sometimes even incite violence. Empathy and tolerance don’t cost a dime. I hope this young woman has a great future ahead of her rises above this petty, prejudicial school policy.

Even if someone thinks that being trans is not ok or even real, what is wrong with a person choosing which “gender” of clothing to wear? Even the Supreme Court has ruled (in the 2020 Aimee Stevens case) that requiring a certain type of attire based on sex is sex discrimination. Stevens was the mortuary worker who transitioned while working for the Harris Funeral Home. Her boss continued to insist on referring to her as a man, and tried to require her to wear men’s clothes at work. Justice Neil Gorsuch surprised everyone by arguing that this amounted to workplace sexual discrimination.

Incredibly ironic. She earned her degree as a female and they want her to accept her diploma as a male? We all agree dress codes have exceptions for many reasons. The administration could have made a dress code exception
in this circumstance so this student could graduate with her classmates. I hope they change the policy for future graduates but it’s doubtful.
To label that judge with any one or more of the words evil, wicked, sinful, immoral, wrongful, bad, iniquitous, corrupt, ungodly, disgraceful, unprincipled, despicable, dishonorable, unconscionable, depraved, vile, foul, villainous, etc., etc., would be to insult the words.

And you wonder why so many children suffer from mental illness. So sad. That judge is not fit, as many others appointed by Trump, to serve. A decision like that, as teachers know, can traumatize a child.

You’d think. Just attended my son’s graduation and the boys wore blue caps and gowns and girls wore white. Issed-pay ee-may off-yay. Probably more so that seemingly no one else was.

Our kids all wore black robes. So also at the local college. My niece went to University of the South (aka Sewane) where they “robe” top students at the end of their senior year, all black. I think some programs at the university often choose colors to represent particular professions, but that might be a thing of the past.

There are robes but students wear clothes under them and they are slightly visible.
Students wear robes during the graduation ceremony, but they don’t usually wear robes all day. It would have been humiliating for a trans girl to dress as a boy for the day when she considers herself a girl, and has lived as a girl for at least four years. Can you even imagine the courage it took for a teenager to be transgender in Mississippi? The bullying and scorn she endured? This choice must have been painful for her and her family. But it was her choice. I don’t understand the cruelty of school officials and the federal judge who thought it best to humiliate her.
Of course the robes are gender neutral. The school officials and judge wanted to punish this students by requiring her to wear boys clothing

Target removes some LGBTQ merchandise from stores ahead of June Pride month after threats to workers
NEW YORK (AP) — Target is removing certain items from its stores and making other changes to its LGBTQ merchandise nationwide ahead of Pride month, after an intense backlash from some customers including violent confrontations with its workers.
“Since introducing this year’s collection, we’ve experienced threats impacting our team members’ sense of safety and well-being while at work,” Target said in a statement Tuesday. ”Given these volatile circumstances, we are making adjustments to our plans, including removing items that have been at the center of the most significant confrontational behavior.”
Target declined to say which items it was removing but among the ones that garnered the most attention were “tuck friendly” women’s swimsuits that allow trans women who have not had gender-affirming operations to conceal their private parts. Designs by Abprallen, a London-based company that designs and sells occult- and satanic-themed LGBTQ clothing and accessories, have also created backlash….
