Trump has fully embraced the rightwing sector of the GOP, first by having dinner with Ye and Fuentes—racists, white nationalists, anti-Semites—then by promising to pardon and release the insurrectionists of January 6. Now Trump has renounced the Constitution. He repeats the Big Lie and demands that he be “declared” the rightful president or that a new election be held.
Former President Donald Trump called for the termination of the Constitution to overturn the 2020 election and reinstate him to power Saturday in a continuation of his election denialism and pushing of fringe conspiracy theories.
“Do you throw the Presidential Election Results of 2020 OUT and declare the RIGHTFUL WINNER, or do you have a NEW ELECTION? A Massive Fraud of this type and magnitude allows for the termination of all rules, regulations, and articles, even those found in the Constitution,” Trump wrote in a post on the social network Truth Social and accused “Big Tech” of working closely with Democrats. “Our great ‘Founders’ did not want, and would not condone, False & Fraudulent Elections!”
Trump’s post came after the release of internal Twitter emails showing deliberation in 2020 over a New York Post story about material found on Hunter Biden’s laptop.

Trump is nuts. I prefer the word crazy. Trump is as cunning as a hungry tiger in the wood stalking his prey. Definitely insane as can be seen by his actions on a daily basis. And, “Stupid Is as Stupid Does!”. I would like to add dementia to the list of mental and physical issues plaguing Trump. Roll all this together and Trump is a person who should not even be allowed a computer, telephone, or out of his house.
Of course his Republican supports must have the same problems because they continue to bow down to him kiss his feet or other prominent parts of his body.

Michael Cohen predicted before the 2020 election that Trump would never admit defeat, if he lost. He questioned how Trump could be removed from the White House since it is not in his temperament to admit defeat. He said Trump would pull every string, every trick to avoid acknowledging that he lost.
Every rational person in his orbit told him he lost. But he refused to accept it so he believed the people like Guiliani and Sidney Powell, who stroked his ego and assured him that the election could be overturned.
Trump is a useful idiot that lots of Republicans would like to discard. Like the plot of so many bad sci fi movies, the GOP created this monster, but they can’t control it. I would like to see them all go down together in a blaze of ignominy for trying to destroy democracy.

Every day, I open the various news aggregators and see story after story about how this or that shows that Trump is very likely to get what’s coming to him any time now.

Here’s the only way, I’ve come to think, that it will happen: if enough powerful Repugnuts come to think that they have to get him safely out of the way or he will lose them the 2024 election, either by becoming the nominee (highly unlikely) or running on a third-party ticket.

Maybe in 2016 cared about a few real issues as well as soaking in the adulation he got for supreme court appointments and regulation reform. And -he got elected. Tax fraud, pal-ling around with dictators, and, and, and was one thing. This takes to a whole new level.

There were a few Republicans who criticized Trump’s statement, but notably, Ron DeSantis was not among them.
You’d hope and think that an active duty member of the US military who has taken an oath to “protect and defend the Constitution of the United States” would have something to say about a call by a former President (or anyone for that matter) to “terminate” the Constitution.
You’d think.
Perhaps DeSantis actually agrees with Trump?

As someone who is going to be challenging Trump for the nomination, it’s actually stupid on DeSantis’ part NOT to say anything about Trump’s call to terminate the Constitution.
It will almost certainly be something he will be asked about during the 2024 race.
DeSantis is extremely cautious. And smart. This is his big chance. Unlike Fools Rush In Trump, he plays it cool. One never knows when one will need friends. Don’t burn bridges.
It’s also an opportunity — maybe the best opportunity he will get — to distinguish himself from Trump.
How many members of the military are going to support Trump after this?
And support DeSantis if he stays quiet?
I just don’t see staying quiet about this as smart.
If DeSantis waits around until later on to say “look, I’m better than Trump because I actually believe in the Constitution”, it is going to ring hollow with many people who will rightly wonder why he waited.
It will have the appearance of sticking his finger in the air to see which way the wind is blowing . And that will be precisely what it is.
It would probably be better not even to lay out this argument because it’s better for the country if he doesn’t say anything now.
Presenting the argument might actually ake him speak up.

Does he realize if we go outside the boundaries of the Constitution then it’s basically a free for all – there is no one to declare President, just like there is then no President to be declared – we made all this stuff up. There is no biological Presidential position.
There’s a reason we call this an “experiment” in Democracy – if you disavow all we’ve done, you might as well call a Constitutional Convention, or else we’ll be a country of 50 different countries – all with their own taxes and ideas.

Cohen said awhile back that he might threaten to distribute info from the stolen classified documents if prosecuted. I wouldn’t put it past him.
