Pieper Lewis was 15 when she ran away from the home of her adopted mother. She slept in the lobby of an apartment building. She was befriended by a man who then gave her to other men in exchange for drugs or money. One man raped her repeatedly. In a fit of rage, she stabbed him repeatedly and killed him in 2020. After more than two years in detention, she came before a judge who gave her five years of probation, instead of 20 years in prison. He also required this homeless teen to pay $150,000 to the rapist’s family in accordance with Iowa law.
One of Pieper’s high school teachers stepped in to help her by creating a GoFundMe to pay her debt. Leland Schipper, her former math teacher, hoped to raise $150,000, enough to pay what she owed plus some money to help her get a fresh start. He has so far raised over $400,000 so that the child will be able to go to college or start a business. She said in a statement that she wants to help other girls like her who were victims of sex trafficking.
This was Pieper Lewis’ statement at her sentencing hearing.
Thank you to Leland Schipper for giving this young woman, this child, a chance to start over.
Quite a story.
Another example of the stupidity of mandatory sentencing laws
Pieper Lewis is clearly an intelligent young woman who has had a terrible life. I hope she can move forward with her life and achieve her goals. Her thoughtful, caring math teacher has helped raise enough money so Pieper can pay off her restitution debt and perhaps go to school for fashion and design. I see her as a victim more than a threat to society. She sounds determined not to be defined by her past. Human trafficking remains a huge problem that often exploits poor children.
As proved by all the extreme anti abortion laws and the Extreme Court majority, our society is far more of a threat to women than any women are to our society..
Our society run by men) daily commits extreme violence on our most vulnerable women..
In the US, many of the men who commit rape and even sex trafficking get away with it.
Especially those with wealth, pedigree and access to powerful politicians and (other) lawyers.
Hell, a credible accusation of rape won’t even prevent you from being a Congressman, Supreme Court Justice or even President because most voters simply do not give a damn.
You know, because “Frat boys will be Frat boys”
And, in Florida, at least,, Congress boys will be Congress boys.
In Florida you can get elected as long as you did not rape a woman in the middle of z busy street at rush hour.
And even then , it would still be a close race against a woman.
And in Florida, even when you are convicted and given a token jail sentence at a country club “prison”(calling what you did “soliciting prostitution from a minor” rather than what it actualky was “rape”) they let you out each day (allowing you to continue sex trafficking) while you are serving your sentence.
But only if you have the right connections
and know the secret Yalie handshake, of course.
Matt Gaetz is my so-called representative. He is accused of trafficking a minor across lines. Yet, he won his primary with 70% of the vote. Sometimes, you can’t save people from themselves, and that seems to be the case here.
At least 26 women have accused President Donald Trump of sexual misconduct since the 1970s. He should be the one in jail.
The Evangelicals are falling all over themselves to say that Jesus forgave him.
The ROM has said they won’t reveal their intentions with regard to Gates until after the election so as not to appear to be influencing the outcome.
But hell, if they plan to indict him, they need not worry about people in Florida not voting for him because of it.
DOJ and Gaetz
Not ROM and Gates
Imagine, SomeDAM, that you or I were accused of doing what a certain Flor-uh-duh Congressperson did. We would LONG AGO have been arrested and tried. Another example of how we have two sets of laws, one for the wealthy and powerful, another for everyone else.
Trump is a serial rapist. He has experienced no consequences for this. None. This is what law looks like in the United States.

DeSantis Corruption Scandal: Why Energy Bills Are Skyrocketing in Florida
Sept 15, 2022
Ron DeSantis is at the center of yet another major
political scandal. DeSantis appointees have allowed the state’s largest power company to increase Floridians’ utility rates by billions. Why? The same power company is running a vast effort to buy GOP control of the state.
Terrible, but not surprising, Carol.
Ron is in all the big corporate pockets, especially Florida Power and Light.
“He also required this homeless teen to pay $150,000 to the rapist’s family in accordance with Iowa law.”
How horrible. What is wrong with Iowa politicians who passed such a law?
There’s a lot wrong with politicians today, and this law is a perfect example.
What is wrong with the people of Iowa who voted for politicians who passed such a law?
