Heather Cox Richardson, historian, summarizes some of the fallout from the first public meeting of the 1/6 Commissuon:
Today in the New York Times, columnist Maureen Dowd reacted to Thursday’s revelations that Trump was “deadly serious about overthrowing the government,” by laying out the main points: Trump knew he had lost the election, and he was willing to see his vice president hanged in order to avoid being labeled a loser. Dowd called former president Trump an “American monster” and compared him unfavorably to Frankenstein’s monster, who at least “has self-awareness, and a reason to wreak havoc…[and] knows how to feel guilty and when to leave the stage.” Our monster, in contrast, is driven only by “pure narcissistic psychopathy—and he refuses to leave the stage or cease his vile mendacity.”
Yesterday, Politico’s Betsy Woodruff Swan and Kyle Cheney reported that on January 5, 2021, then–vice president Pence’s attorney Greg Jacob wrote a three-page memo concluding that what the president and his supporters were demanding Pence do the next day would break the 1887 Electoral College Act—that is, the law—in four different ways. The memo responded to John Eastman’s memo laying out the plan for Pence to hand the election to Trump by refusing to count a number of Biden electors. Jacob noted that Eastman himself “acknowledges that his proposal violates several provisions of statutory law.” In addition, both historical court decisions and one as recent as the day before contradicted Eastman’s plan.

The Donald, or Remembrance of Things Ass (with Apologies to E.B.B.)
How do I loathe thee? Let me count the ways.
I loathe thee to the depth and breadth and height
My soul can reach. I cannot stand the sight
Of thee. Disdain thou makest me embrace.
I loathe thee to the level of every day’s
Most fervent rage, by sun and monitor light.
I loathe thy morals, thy contempt for every right.
I loathe thy vanity, seeking constant praise.
I loathe thee with the passion one might choose
To heap on vandals, and with my childhood’s faith
That decency, under thy boot, we shall not lose.
So may we curse thee with every waking breath
Thy objectification of all, thy conman’s ruse,
Thy instincts not of a man but a wasp on Meth.

Think I’ll order some hamburders
And tweet out some diverters
From the latest breaking news
’bout the crimes I’ve perpetrated
And the folks I’ve terminated

Oh, I-I-I can’t tell you why

Rudolph the Ghouliani
had a very brown, brown nose,
squandered his former goodwill,
stroking Trump on TV shows.
All of the other Trumpties
used to laugh and call him names.
Even those abject toadies
thought him crooked and insane.
Then one Foggy Bottom eve,
Trumpty called to say,
“Rude one with your nose so brown,
won’t you take Joe Biden down?”
What happened then’s sheer folly:
thanks to lows the two men reached,
history will most remember that

INT. OVAL OFFICE – DAY
Trump sitting behind the Resolute Desk. Camera back to reveal Rod Serling standing D.R.
SERLING
His name, Mr. Little. A man with little education, little taste, little knowledge, little concern for other people. Neglected as a child, he grew into a black hole of neediness. And so he used Daddy’s money to build big, erected his name in Midas-gold letters across the landscape–his every action screaming, “I am worth something.” Everything became a zero-sum game. If someone else failed or was worse off, he was better, a “winner,” and so he cheated and harassed and ridiculed the unfortunate, the stranger, the down and out; appealed to the basest instincts of the basest among us; huffed and puffed and blew himself to gigantic proportions, at least in his own little brain. A twisted, malignant, metastasizing tumor of need and narcissism and knee-jerk nastiness, Mr. Little doesn’t know much, but the biggest thing he doesn’t know is that he just stepped over into a place where everything is bigger than he is, where everything is just beyond the grasp of his little mind and his little hands. He just stepped over into . . . The Twilight Zone.

And yet that traitor is still free to keep stirring his pot full of hateful, vengeful, toxic fascist stew.
The traitor must be arrested, tossed in a cell without bail where he must be kept in total isolation with no contact with anyone else. His guards must be deaf mutes who feed him and take away the trays. Their orders must be that he has to eat what the rest of the inmates have eat.
The traitor must stay in that cell on Riskers Island (or the Super Max in Colorado) 24/7 until his court cases are over and the verdicts have come in.
During his court cases and trials, he’ll be shackled and led to a room by the deaf mute guards where the traitor will sit alone, locked to a table bolted to the floor. There will be a camera, a TV screen and a mike that he has no control over. The only people watching will be the judge, the jury and lawyers in a sealed courtroom. Everything will be taped.
When the traitor is asked a question, his answers will be on a time delay so he can’t start ranting that he won the 2016 and 2020 elections with the biggest majority in history.
The prosecuting lawyers will be allowed to keep asking him the same question until he answers it even if his answer is to invoke his 5th Amendment Rights.. Then and only then will they move on to the next question.

3 days ago, Diane wrote about the Southern Baptist Convention. One of the speakers at the 2022 annual meeting, John MacArthur, was the subject of a Fox article, 8-30-2020. MacArthur said then that any, real believer would vote for Trump over Biden.
Trump’s anti-woman behavior convinced Beth Moore (she’s reached millions of evangelical Christian women with her books and speaking engagements) to leave the Southern Baptist fold. Religion News reported that Moore, before leaving the sect, had supported limits on women in the offices of pastors but, now knew she was wrong.
WaPo (4-7-2021) wrote that Moore apologized for supporting a theology that restricts women. “She tweets: I plead for forgiveness for how I just submitted to it and supported it and taught it.”

Her partner, Jamie Manson, is also impressive. An article she wrote, posted at Catholic Choice, 11-4-2021, “How One Nun’s Excommunication Foreshadowed the Bishops’ Attack on Biden”, shows us the danger for women in their reproductive years who live in the U.S. system where 1 in 6 hospitals are Catholic. The threat extends to the husbands and children who love those women.

Catholic schools teach propaganda that devalues women and their roles as wives and mothers. Women are indoctrinated to sacrifice their lives for a fetus, a sacrifice that makes their husbands widowers and which can leave their remaining children motherless. I doubt that many Catholic men, over the expanse of their lives, think much about the fetuses that they encouraged women to abort. On the other hand, women are expected to carry contrived guilt to the grave.
The Talmud reflects a better religion than the one developed by the men who created Catholic doctrine.
