Rejoice Christian School in Owasso, Oklahoma, was expelled because she told another girl that she had a crush on her.
If every little girl who had the same feelings for a best friend admitted the same, there would be very few little girls left in school. Children at that age are not thinking about sex, although their elders are.
Should public funds support religious schools? Of course not.
Well, she can just enroll in the public school. Hopefully. If it still exists and hasn’t been eradicated by zealous free market ed reformers on a mission to privatize schools.
That’s the only function of public schools in ed reform “choice” schemes- “safety net” schools.
That’s the vision for your public school in ed reform- an underfunded “safety net” that exists only to serve the needs of the (ideologically preferred) “choice” sector. Our schools and students have no value in and of themselves. Their only value is to serve the needs of students who are rejected by the choice schools.
This little girl didn’t do anything wrong but it’s an open secret where I live that the private religious schools send the students with behavioral problems or increased education needs to the public school when the private school discovers the issue.
The private school then brags that they have no student discipline issues when they’re recruiting for new students- they have none because they sent them all off to the public school.
Our schools exist to serve the needs of the private school. There’s zero interest in how this affects the public school or public school students. Public school students? Absolute last priority in choice schemes. Our kids aren’t even considered.
Little girls and boys have best friends. They hold hands. They hug each other. They love one another. It has no sexual meaning except in the eyes of those who see evil everywhere.

Since private schools can expel the students they don’t want to serve, and public schools can’t, have any of the thousands of full time, paid ed reformers given any thought at all to how this might impact public schools?
Anyone? Or are public schools and public school students once again being completely ignored in this ideological privatization crusade?
I guess we’ll find out! Gosh I hope this massive experiment they’re conducting doesn’t harm students in public schools, especially given that none of them did any thought or planning at all before upending the system.
Public schools and public school students are once again the collateral damage of these ideological/economic experiments. No one in ed reform considers our students at all.
I got into a back and forth on Twitter with someone from @EdChoice (founders are acolytes of Milton Friedman) who insisted that children are being deprived of their IDEA rights because the government needs to give private and religious schools more money for these kids. A tad ironic, since said schools won’t take kids with complex disabilities unless they also test well.
As he insisted that parents have a right to choose the best schools for their children, I suggested they choose a public school, which would have trained professionals certified in education of kids with special needs.
They want it both ways.
When kids go to private schools, with or without vouchers, they abandon their IDEA rights.
If everyone loved others as young children do then most of the problems of the world would be solved.
If people of every faith (Christian, Islamic, etc., etc.) actually practiced what they preach then most of the problems of the world would be solved.
Amen, Af——gmen!
moeone2015 : That is absolutely true.
I hope the ba***rds that run that school meet kharma pronto. Line’em up on the sea-bottom with millstones around their necks.
The narrow minds behind this could go through an actual eye of a needle. With space on all sides.
Dolly Parton, one of the kindest, most respected, best Christians of all time, liked a girl when she was little.
Jolene? Before she tried to take Dolly’s man?
Coat of Many Colors. When the kids at school bullied her because of her coat made of rags, a girl came to Dolly’s rescue and became her childhood soulmate.
Speaking of our national treasure: Dolly Parton turned down Trump when he wanted to award her the Presidential Medal of Freedom – twice.

Donald is not worthy of putting his hands around anyone’s neck, especially not Dolly’s.
LeftCoastTeacher: Melania did that ‘honor’ for Rush L. Dolly Parton is much better than the plastic trophy wife.
ALL the 8-11yo’s at Girl Scout camp had girl-crushes on somebody. DUH. The people running that school should check their prurient “moral codes” at the door.
But Jolene is also a great song. I love the hand drum and guitar rhythms in that one. And Dolly truly is a heartfelt wordsmith. Ahh, I love Southern culture. I respect a great deal of it while despising other parts of it. I’ve been cognizant for years about the irony of my being a liberal left coast Berniecrat who watches NASCAR and listens to country music. It’s going to be difficult going for me after the last four years, culminating with January 6th.
And then there’s Georgia. Maybe my stereotypes are just that. Hope so.
Watch the Saturday Night Live skit called Blue Georgia.
Exactly.
Writing as the self appointed resident DJ of this blog, it may surprise some of you that I’m a real fan of Dolly. My favorite album of hers is Halos and Horns, written in the aftermath of September 11 and fairly hard to find because it’s on a small label. Apple Music recently added it, not sure about Spotify. Here’s her succinct reaction to that horrible day, kind of fits for Jan 6 too:
Thank you.
Isn’t it refreshing to have some human decency coming from the top? Imagine the terror that these children have gone through. They will never recover. What will happen to toddlers and babies who don’t know their parent’s names?

Biden immigration orders include family unification task force
02/02/21 05:00 AM EST
President Biden will sign three executive orders on Tuesday focused on reforming the immigration system and undoing actions of the Trump administration, including establishing a family reunification task force and calling for a review of the public charge rule.
One of the orders will create a task force focused on identifying all of the minor children separated from their parents or guardians due to the Trump administration’s “zero tolerance” policy in 2018, which a senior Biden administration official called a “moral failure and a national shame.”
The task force will be charged with reuniting the hundreds of migrant children who still have yet to be brought together with their families, and it will provide regular updates to the president on how to prevent future family separations…

You know, in the final analysis I am left to speculate on just how mean and stupid you would have to be to do something like this.
2nd grade girl. 4th, probably more grade ignorance exemplified cloaked in self righteous “Christianity”. Would that these “Christian” preachers would preach and practice real love instead of such counterproductive measures that psychologically damage people.
