Steven Singer knows how often people speak of their appreciation for teachers, although that appreciation seldom translates into appropriate compensation. He has an idea: If you really appreciate teachers, vaccinate them first before opening their schools.
He begins:
This year I don’t need a free donut.
I don’t need a Buy One Get One coupon for school supplies.
I don’t need a novelty eraser or a mug with a happy saying on it.
I just need to be vaccinated against Covid-19 before being asked to teach in-person.
Sounds reasonable..

Teachers already teaching in person deserve priority.
Teachers teaching remotely do, too, as long as they sign an agreement to teach in person after being vaccinated.

Vaccinating teachers before they return to the classroom is the safest option, but we have a supply chain problem. Operation Warp Speed ordered far too few doses of vaccine. Cuomo was talking about the problem yesterday. NY has seven million people eligible in the current tier, but NY is getting only 200,000 weekly doses. The result is a tremendous lag in availability. Vaccines are distributed based on population so all the states are facing shortages. Biden ordered three hundred million more doses from Pfizer and Moderna. The other problem is the more time we take to get people vaccinated the greater the probability that the vaccine will mutate into more variants of the virus. Biden thinks that the US can get everyone vaccinated by the summer.

Like everything else in the Idiot’s administration, we now know the marketing had nothing to do with reality. It should rightfully be called Operation Warped Speed.

Cuomo also stated that he was pleased with the low rate of spread in the schools that are open. It is of little solace to the teachers that are putting themselves in harm’s way every day to work in schools. There are no easy solutions that will please everyone.
I appreciate Biden’s candor about our current reality. His team is working hard to make up for Trump’s failure to tackle the virus.

Wow! Steven hits it right on the mark! If all want students back in school then why not vaccinate the employees first? This would solve so much! It’s really a no brainer to do this.

We have one daughter teaching 5 hs classes per day and another daughter who is a principal in a large elementary school They go to work each day unprotected from a lethal virus..This treatment of teachers is inhumane and deplorable..Vaccinate our teachers before reopening our schools. It should be a no brainerl Let’s get it done .

I assume you are teaching at Liberty University (your email address), founded by Jerry Falwell, and that you are not in a K-12 classroom. Am I wrong?

No I do not teach at the university.
Have a good day. I am not interested in any correspondence.
Thank you.

Please do your due diligence before participating in an irreversible human experiment. If everything you are seeing is positive, dig deeper. There is much to learn. As always, medical decisions should be made with FULLY informed consent and without political influence.

SG,
I was thrilled to get the first shot of the vaccine. I am hopeful that my state will have enough supply for me to get the second shot in three weeks. I have studied the issue thoroughly and made a fully informed decision.

I kinda figured that when the majority of medical professionals who are caring for the covid patients step up to take the vaccine that I am probably pretty safe to follow their example. I seriously doubt that we want to wipe out a large proportion of our medical profession.

In counties near Chicago (which is Cook, also containing many suburbs), a # of suburban school districts & private schools had made plans for their teachers to be vaccinated. This was not done in Chicago. The CTU may go on strike starting tomorrow.

Hopefully, profs also count as teachers.

Profs who count should count
Without a single doubt
But profs who integrate
Should really have to wait

Dang, I can integrate. If I was a count, could I count on getting vaccinated within a week?

Maybe if you were a wealthy count and could “buy” a vaccine in Florida.

You might be able to integrate, but that does not mean you are integral.

I would differentiate between the two.

Not everyone who counts is vaccinated but everyone who is vaccinated counts.
