I signed up for the vaccine as soon as I was eligible (eight days ago), and today I went to the Bushwick Educational Complex in Brooklyn. I stood in a very long line in the cold for about 30 minutes, then realized that older people (like me) were being brought indoors through a different, shorter line. I joined that line. At about 1:15 p.m., I got the Moderna vaccine, which is the one selected by New York City. Every day, more testing sites open, and more people are vaccinated. I have an appointment to return in 28 days for my second shot. If everyone gets vaccinated, we can stop this pandemic that has killed 400,000 of our fellow citizens.
Wonderful!! My husband got an appointment for Thursday. The end is near. Brava! What a great way to start celebrating a new administration.
What wonderful news!
🎉🎉🎉😘😘😘
Congratulations, Diane.
So did I. Yippee!
Terrific
Wonderful news! I’m in MD and won’t be able to get mine until Phase 4 and they’re only on Phase 1B right now. My husband will be able to get his at Phase 2 due to his health issues. My poor in laws (in their 80’s) are in FLA and can’t even access the online site to try and book an appointment. It’s so frustrating that this hasn’t been handled better. At least there is light at the end of the tunnel!
Telling people you were vaccinated is even better than being vaccinated. Good on you!
Hi Diane, I’m glad you got a vaccination because we will always need your voice as educators. After hearing Biden’s plan to reopen school completely within 100 days, I think that that mass vaccinations and moving school personnel to the top of the priority list in every state has to happen first. As a high school principal in Texas, I’ve seen the pandemic effects on education and families.
Time published an interesting piece explaining the history and science behind the new mRNA vaccines. In the piece, it was mentioned that Moderna’s vaccine is more stable than Pfizer-BioNTech’s, and it doesn’t have to be kept at such low temperatures to keep it viable.

Oh congratulations! I’m in Phase 2 so still waiting, but my wonderful caregiver received her first shot 2 weeks ago which is a relief for both of us.
Diane
I got mine there a week ago and was very pleased. They saw me on line and took me right in. Once in a while it pays being old(er).

Outstanding.
Here in HIllsborough County, Flor-u-duh, authorities announced that seniors could either visit a website or make a call starting at 9:00 in the morning and make an appointment to get a shot at one of four drive-up locations. Seniors without cars were out of luck. Too bad, so sad.
So, at 9:00, I started calling and visiting the website, attempting to get an appointment. The website completely crashed around 9:01, and the phone lines were constantly busy. I finally got through by email to the responsible office in county government, told them that THE WEBSITE WAS DOWN and the phone line jammed and got a courteous reply back telling me that they were sorry for my inconvenience and that I should visit the website.
I replied and told them, look, I told you that the website was down, and your reply was for me to visit the website. I got a reply saying that the website was down.
After a half day trying to get through on the phone line, I gave up. Then, that evening, I read a news story saying that the county had 4,000 doses of the vaccine. It has to be taken twice, so they could treat 2,000 people. The county has 250,000 seniors.
In other parts of the state, seniors waited in line all day in cars without bathrooms or food only be told once they got to the front of the line that there were no more vaccines available.
Kinda makes one proud, huh?
Meanwhile, a Tampa-area megachurch pastor held a giant, indoor, maskless service this last Sunday, and because of the fecklessness of Flor-uh-duh Trump Mini-Me Governor DeSatan, local authorities can’t do a thing about this.
Megachurch pastors who hold maskless indoor services get off scott free while college age girls spend a month in jail for attending a jet ski event — outside!! — in violation of a quarantine.

And you just know that the authorities in the Cayman Islands (perhaps even the guy interviewed at the end of the video) who jailed her are probably violating their own rules, just like the President of Notre Dame did when he attended the WH Rose garden event without a mask.
2000 out of 250,000 is fully 0.8%
That seems very good for Flooriduh.
The one advantage of being older, got mine yesterday on the Lower East Side, well organized, helpful staff, thanked the nurse, short walk to Russ and Daughters for culinary delights … if Biden can actually deliver 100M vaccines in 100 days it’s sainthood…
Very, very happy that you were able to get vaccinated, Diane!
It is not a vaccine; it does not provide immunity from getting or receiving the virus. It is an experimental medical procedure that renders the body a genetically modified organism. Numerous people have had adverse reactions or worse from this untested synthetic injection. I worked with special ed students for more than 40 years and witnessed an explosion of vaccine-damaged kids starting in the 1990s, especially autism, which make them a burden to parents and society for their lifetimes. This was due to a huge increase in vaccines pushed by the CDC, which is a vaccine- selling agency. Vaccines contain adjuvants with toxic chemicals such as mercury, aluminum, glyphosate, and aborted fetal tissue and other animal DNA.
I urge readers to educate themselves to the dangers of a new unproven procedure with no long term studies. This whole covid hysteria has been an agenda for Big Pharma to rake in billions of dollars in profits and for politicians to wield power and control through fear and guilt. Our children have lost a years’ worth of education. Lockdowns and masks don’t work. Small businesses have gone under while big box stores and big tech have cleaned up the market. Liquor stores can stay open, but not libraries? This past year has been an exercise in absurdity. Learn how PCR tests are invalid and show false positive results. (In my state of Oregon, the average “covid” death is in people in their 80s and virtually all of them with underlying conditions, meaning they died with the covid virus found in a PCR test but not from it.) Turn off mainstream media (sponsored by Big Pharma) and start watching courageous and enlightened physicians and journalists on alterative media: Robert F Kennedy, Jr.’s Children’s Health Defense, Greenmedinfo.org, Dr. Mercola, Del Bigtree at The Highwire, and more. Support The Great Barrington Declaration which urges protecting vulnerable and elderly persons but encourages all healthy people to life life, open up employment and public services. A “vaccine” is not needed. Clean up our air, water, soil and food so that our bodies can have a healthy and fortified immune system. Reduce inequality and provide clean, green jobs for all. Stop obsessing about death from a minute bit of RNA. We will all die. It’s time to move forward and live Life to the fullest without an experimental medical procedure with harmful side effects.
You are a misinformation superspreader. Stop it.
Also, please note that if you spread falsehoods about vaccination online and someone acts upon that misnformation and then suffers a medical calamity as a result, his or her family can sue you for the damage. Think twice about spreading this utter nonsense.
Bob, people like this are, unfortunately with us. To heck with think twice, think once, think at all. Anti-vaxxers are very much the medical equivalent of the mob that is terrorizing this nation. They take moments that should be celebratory away from us. They have other demons in their lives that they are unable to control.
So here’s what people like this get wrong: we–and the world–have a three phase drug safety and efficacy protocol that generally take years to approve drugs that make it into the clinic. There are multiple boards of experts that vet the information at every step of the process. The vast majority of drug candidates never get approved. The same happened with the vaccines that have been and are expected to be approved. These, unlike the simplicity the news sometimes has to devolve into, did not happen in isolation. They were built on years and years of basic and applied research on a range of coronaviruses, which have been with us since the beginning of time. People like the one above to not understand the difference between the concepts of fast and rushed. These vaccines were not rushed. They were developed at a fast pace because there had been decades of previous research. The development of the first manufactured monoclonal antibody (mAb) was awarded a Nobel Prize in 1984. It was more than 25 years later that the first mAb in use for humans was approved. Since then, it has been among the most promising therapies, mostly in cancers. It was based on an understanding of genetic differentiation that began with the an NIH-funded study in the 1980s to determine why some guppies had one color and others had another. It is based on science, not profit at the expense of human beings.
The other thing that they get wrong: every drug has unintended side effects for some people. Most have side effects that are manageable, can be anticipated, and in some cases, have to be stopped in some people. But there are people who have adverse effects, sometimes catastrophic. That’s why we have a National Vaccine Injury Fund (which the Idiot tried unsuccessfully to kill). There is an infinitesimal risk for some that cannot be anticipated. The same is true of penicillin. The same is true of aspirin. There are a handful of people who die each year because of bad reactions. To compare, most pedestrians do just fine for a lifetime, some get run over. The point is that we do the best we can, we work on safety, and mostly we get it very right.
If you can get a vaccine get it. If people like this try to spew ignorance, ignore them. They are dangerous to themselves, to society and to the concept of knowledge.
Well said, Greg.

I had no adverse reactions. I’m delighted to have received my first vaccine.
Looking forward to getting the second one.
Janet E. Johnson,
The Great Barrington Declaration – embraced by many Trump Administration doctors and signed by lots of fake names like famous British serial killer “Dr. Harold Shipman” and “Professor Notaf Uckingclue” – has been wildly discredited and after 400,000+ deaths, the few doctors who were pushing it haven’t shown their faces recently. Maybe they realized that when hospitals are overwhelmed with COVID -19 patients, their own family members with ANY serious illness or who gets into an accident will be told to go home as no medical personnel are available to treat them.
When people come here and insult public school teachers and students, I get upset and protective, sometimes overprotective because not all readers of this widely read blog understand the history of undervaluing public schools for private gain. Even though this is a blog for the knowledgeable, some might be swayed by some syrupy bullshhh. But I am not the least bit concerned about what was posted atop this thread against vaccines because there just aren’t too many antivaxxers or potential antivaxxers reading this. Probably none.
The link between autism and vaccination was based on a flawed study using cherry picked data.
Good to hear
Also, glad you got the vaccine, Diane! As they would say in your hometown, good on ya!
Yay!
I am on a list for the vaccine but that was after four hours of being in a vortex of meaningless referrals similar to Bob’s description of Hillsborough County’s “customer help” algorithm. I also appreciate Bob’s and other rapid response to the “misinformation superspreader” who was seeking attention.
NYC created an online application site for the vaccine. Simple to fill out the form, select a site, make an appointment.
The City of Cincinnati has a health department. So does Hamilton County in which the City is located. The online information made it easy for anyone seeking a time slot to be kicked from one heath department to another when only one of these health departments was accepting reservations from my zip code.
What Bob described is called a ” malgorithm”
I’m way down low on the list — fake internet poets are considered inessential (can you imagine?) in my state — so won’t even be considered for vaccination til summer (probably of 2022 — at the earliest — the way things are currently going)
I got my Moderna shot last week, and I also had no reaction. While it was difficult to get an appointment, the actual shot was simple and well planned.
Great🙏 God will continue to keep you safe beloved
The Pfizer vaccine has to be shipped and stored at negative 95 degrees F! requires special freezer.
Moderna vaccine only has to be shipped at -4 F and can be at room temp for 12 hours or normsl fridge temp for 30 days preceding injection.
Id be curious how one can even know whether the proper temperature regimen was followed.
Congratulations. That is another “shot in the arm” in which you have led us.
Diane Ravitch, doing so is just used as a virtue-signaling tactic and indicative of mindless obedience to people who claim to be the experts. Not only have these so-called vaccines had a significant failure rate, as has been indicated by legitimate medical experts, excluding Anthony Fauci, a man who was funding the research in Wuhan, China with NIH money made this so-called pandemic possible, there was a serious lack of judgement on the part of Anthony Fauci. Had the research been contained within the lab and not been allowed to leak out, maybe we could have been better able to prepare for it.
Diane Ravitch, I know that you went for the Moderna Covid vaccine. I would be happy to know what your thoughts are regarding the Johnson&Johnson, Novavax, Astrazeneca and Pfizer vaccine.
