Andy Borowitz, a humorist for The New Yorker, says that Betsy DeVos is worried that Biden might actually appoint an educator to run the U.S. Department of Education.
He begins:
WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—Calling the prospect a “nightmare scenario,” Betsy DeVos warned that President-elect Joe Biden will pick an Education Secretary with a background in education.
The outgoing Education Secretary warned that putting someone with a “pro-education bias” in her job would be like “naming a fox to be Secretary of Hens.”
“For the past four years, I have worked tirelessly to keep our schools free from education,” she said. “It deeply saddens me to think that all of my hard work will go to waste.”

Did DeVos actually say she worked “tirelessly to keep our schools free of education”? That is like saying as Secretary of Transportation “I tried to keep airplanes free of safety” or Secretary of Energy “I tried to keep nuclear waste free of monitors”. Give DeVos credit for telling the truth: she tried to destroy public education in the USA. If you live in a small rural town, if you love your neighborhood school or if your public school is the center of your community, remember Trump’s appointed Secretary of Education, DeVos, tried to destroy your and my public school.
He was joking, but yes, she did her best to undermine public education. Was the the worst Secretary of Education in our history? Well, between Ditzy and Dunkin’, this has been one heckuva race to the bottom.

I observed the other day to a parent with a kiddo in first grade that DeVos was the worst Secretary of Education, second only to Arne the Dunkin.
Rather frightening, no?
What kind of country puts morons like this in the office?
For context, this parent was pointing out to me that Biden has promised to reopen schools quickly once he’s in office, despite the virus. I told her that didn’t surprise me, given Obama’s manner of dealing with public education.
She has just the one kid in first grade, and it reminds me that while educators see policies and changes over the long haul, many parents only pay attention for maybe 12 years. Yet, they have opinions which can be influential.
While we often assume parents have as much skin in the game as we do, it might to helpful to understand their interests may only be short term – just as long as their kids take to move through the schools.
Never fear, Secretary Ditizy DeVoid!
