After the 2000 election, which George W. Bush won by a few hundred contested votes in Florida, I was appointed to the National Commission on Federal election Reform. It was completely bipartisan. The co-chairs were former President Gerald Ford and former President Jimmy Carter. It’s report was released in August 2001.
The overriding goals of the commission were to ensure that elections were free and fair, that every citizen had the right to vote without hindrance, that every vote was counted, and that the results were accurately and fully reported.
Today, it is worth your time to review the recommendations of the Commission.
Amomg other things, the Commission recommended that all properly filed absentee ballots should be counted if they were postmarked no later than Election Day, even if they were counted after the election.
Today, our society is witnessing efforts to suppress the vote. There ar3 states like Texas that limited the number of drop boxes for mail-in ballots to only one per county, meaning that the more than four million people in Harris County (Houston), a sprawling district, would have only one place to register their ballot. People casting early votes acros the country have had to wait in lines for hours.
These shameful tactics are encouraged by Republicans across the nation,to help their unpopular president. Shameful.
We know that Trump’s lackeys will do whatever they can to suppress the vote.
Vote as if your life depends on it. It does.
Vote as if the future of our democracy depends on it. It does.
Oppose those who tacitly support the Ku Klux Klan and white supremacy.
Oppose those who think the Confederate flag is “our heritage.” It is not.
Vote for Biden and Harris.
Vote for anyone challenging Trump’s enablers in the Senate.
Everyone should vote, and every vote should be counted.
If you want to build a better future, vote.
Amen. And thank you, thank you, dear Diane, for your service to your country, to teachers, and to our children!

Yes, Gore won 500,000 more popular votes than Bush.
From Democracy Now! via Raw Story: This is not the first time Judge Barrett may have a sway over the results of a presidential election. In 2000, she worked for George W. Bush’s legal team on the Bush v. Gore case that stopped the recounting of ballots in Florida and secured the presidency for George W. Bush. If confirmed, Barrett will be the third sitting justice to have worked on Bush’s team in 2000. Justices Brett Kavanaugh and John Roberts also worked on behalf of the Bush campaign during the Florida recount, stopping it. end quote
We might as well not even have the election and just let the Supreme ‘s decide. Makes counting and recounting easy.

And how many want Trump? Thanks we’ll have the results for you shortly.”

Amen^infinity. Vote pro-life for the already living.
Many life changing issues are on the ballot. Covid and how to handle the pandemic tops the list. There are many more items at stake including democracy itself. Health care including Medicare, Social Security and the ACA that impact millions of Americans are all part of the vote. Clean water, air, criminal justice, equity, fair wages and public education are all on the line in this election. While Trump has no platform, discerning voters understand that he is opposed to everything mentioned above. Trump actively rejects everything for the common good.
A lot of people’s lives depend on having healthcare, stimulus payments, housing protections and debt forgiveness that neither party is providing. A lot of people’s lives depend on not getting beaten by the cops – whether Trump’s brownshirts or the blueshirts that control liberal Democratic cities like Portland and Minneapolis. All of our lives depend on having a habitable planet yet Biden and Harris assure us they won’t ban fracking and they’ve already walked back their promise on oil subsidies. When there’s less than 10 years to reverse climate change, “better than Trump” isn’t good enough.
Is this a recommendation to vote for Trump, since Biden and Harris are not good enough for you?
Watch the documentary “Kiss the Ground” on Netflix. Adds a new dimension to the climate change debate, at least for me. I have had another one, Down to Earth, recommended to me as well, but I haven’t gotten to that one yet.
“Better than Trump” is how “good enough” BEGINS. That is what Bernie Sanders and AOC have said.
The chance for “good” ENDS with another 4 years of Trump. That is what Bernie Sanders and AOC have said.
So if you aren’t voting for Biden to defeat Trump, you are voting for more Trump and the end of any chance of “good enough” and against everything that AOC stands for.
If you hate AOC and Bernie, the way that some progressives now do because they see them as evil sell-outs, you should certainly not vote for Biden because if you help Trump win, then you will get your wish and destroy AOC, Bernie Sanders and their movement.
