Trump, a man with no discernible religion, recently said that Biden, a faithful Catholic, will:
“Take away your guns, take away your Second Amendment. No religion, no anything. Hurt the Bible. Hurt God. He’s against God. He’s against guns. He’s against energy, our kind of energy.”
Now that Biden has chosen Kamala Harris as his vice-presidential candidate, the bigots are targeting her, and it will only get worse.
Trumpers say that she isn’t really black, because her mother was born in India. (She is half-black, half-South Asian).
They say she did not descend from American slaves, which is true. She descended from African slaves in Jamaica, on her father’s side.
They say that she isn’t really African American because her father was born in Jamaica. (On Twitter, someone asked, “Where do they think that black people in Jamaica came from?”).
Some claim that she can never be president because both her parents were immigrants. (Not true. She was born in Oakland, California, and native-born citizenship and the age of 35 is all the Constitution requires.)
Then comes the claim that her ancestors were slave owners, based on her father having written that he was descended from a slave owner in Jamaica. (Snopes judged thisa year ago to be “unproven,” but also notes that if she does have a lineage linked to a white Jamaican slave owner, it would likely be because he raped or cohabited with one of his slaves.)
On this blog, a Trumper dropped by yesterday morning to say that Harris is “unqualified” and to call her “an affirmative action hire.” Harris graduated from Howard University and earned her law degre from the University of California Hastings College of Law at San Francisco. Both of her parents earned Ph.D. degrees and were successful professionals. Harris was elected District Attorney of San Francisco, State Attorney General of California, and a U.S. Senator. Harris is highly qualified to be on Joe Biden’s ticket. Her qualifications are far superior to those of Trump and Pence. I judge the slur to be racist, sexist trash.
Expect more of the same from the flailing Trump camp.

No, the attacks have a very specific purpose. They are part of the bipartisan kabuki theater which effectively silences criticism. This way, all criticism of Harris, including legitimate criticism from the left of her actual policies and actions, can just be spun into the same racist, sexist pot and neutralized, just like any criticism of Hillary, no matter how true, was just spun as “it’s just because she’s a woman”. When it comes to a truthful characterization of Kamala Harris, I will trust Bernie Sanders and Michael Moore and Shaun King over an anonymous person who always defends Trump and has said that there was absolutely no evidence presented during the impeachment hearings that showed Trump did anything wrong.
My one concern during this election is that there would be a repeat of the exact same thing that we saw in 2016, where right wing trolls would post ugly lies about the democrats, and people who said they were “on the left” would give those lies credibility because it was assumed that if “the left” was saying that the democrat was a racist, corrupt “baby bomber”, then it must be true.
But this time, real progressives have shut down those lies.

The Baptist mayor of Luray, Virginia, posted on Facebook, “Joe Biden has just announced Aunt Jemima as his VP pick”.

In case you might not have guessed it, Trump does not like to have people he enlists for service in the Federal government to have college degrees.
He spells this out in a June 26, 2020. Executive Order 13932: “Modernizing and Reforming the Assessment and Hiring of Federal Job Candidates.”
This executive order drops college-level education as a requirement in all federal hiring in favor of “competency-based evidence” of qualifications for a position.
“This order directs important, merit-based reforms that will replace degree-based hiring with skills- and competency-based hiring and will hold the civil service to a higher standard—ensuring that the individuals most capable of performing the roles and responsibilities required of a specific position are those hired for that position.”
Degrees are no longer part of “a higher standard” for federal employment. The major claim is that the private sector has embraced “skills- and competency-based” hiring, without regard to college degrees. So that is what government must do as well.
You got some “skill sets” we like? You are eligible for hiring. This may also explain why so many of Trump’s hires are “acting” (Acting Secretary of, Acting Director of). They are temps, not approved by Congress, not vetted for any criterion other that have the “skill sets” Trump likes best–raising or giving millions to his campaign and making him feel really great, the greatest of all time.

The removal of key equipment from Post Offices should be viewed as nothing less than “sabotage,” said one observer.
The head of the Iowa Postal Workers Union alleged Tuesday that mail sorting machines are “being removed” from Post Offices in her state due to new policies imposed by Postmaster General Louis DeJoy, a major GOP donor to President Donald Trump whose operational changes have resulted in dramatic mail slowdowns across the nation.
Asked by NPR’s Noel King whether she has felt the impact of DeJoy’s changes, Iowa Postal Workers Union President Kimberly Karol—a 30-year Postal Service veteran—answered in the affirmative, saying “mail is beginning to pile up in our offices, and we’re seeing equipment being removed.”
Karol went on to specify that “equipment that we use to process mail for delivery”—including sorting machines—is being removed from Postal Service facilities in Iowa as DeJoy rushes ahead with policies that, according to critics, are sabotaging the Postal Service’s day-to-day operations less than 90 days before an election that could hinge on mail-in ballots.
“In Iowa, we are losing machines. And they already in Waterloo were losing one of those machines. So that also hinders our ability to process mail in the way that we had in the past,” added Karol, who said she is “not a fan” of the postmaster general. The number of states, along with the District of Columbia, that received United States Postal Service letters warning them that ballots may not arrive on time to be counted for the November election.

When Trump Calls a Black Woman ‘Angry,’ He Feeds This Racist Trope

President Trump’s use of the word to describe Joe Biden’s vice-presidential pick, Kamala Harris, plays off a hurtful stereotype with a decades-long history.
Kamala Harris may become the first Black woman elected as vice president, but for now she’s still being slotted into a well-worn mold, as President Trump and his allies seek to cast her as “a mad woman.”
Within hours of her joining Joe Biden on the Democratic ticket on Tuesday, Mr. Trump branded her “extraordinarily nasty,” and then “so angry,” as the rhetoric ratcheted up. By Thursday, a Trump campaign fund-raising email called her “the meanest” senator.
All of it played on a racist trope that goes back generations in American culture, and has a complicated history in forging gender identity, power and class. The “angry Black woman” remains a cultural and social fixture, a stereotype that has been used to denigrate artists, athletes and political figures.
“The notion of the angry Black woman was a way — is a way — of trying to keep in place Black women who have stepped outside of their bounds, and who have refused to concede the legitimacy of being a docile being in the face of white power,” said Michael Eric Dyson, the Georgetown professor and author.
The trope, like all stereotypes, is meant to make its subject into something one-dimensional and easier to puncture. It demeans Black women who are perceived as angry by dismissing them as shrews whose opinions do not count because they are pushed to rage by everything, and nothing.
“If you don’t grant us a degree of emotional complexity, then you don’t have to take us seriously, as leaders or as a constituency that has value,” said Brittney Cooper, a professor at Rutgers Universityand the author of“Eloquent Rage: A Black Feminist Discovers Her Superpower.” “White supremacy is lazy and unoriginal,” she added, “and doesn’t feel the need to ascribe humanity to Black women.”
Ms. Harris has not responded to Mr. Trump’s language, but the Biden camp released a statement Friday evening that referred to Mr. Trump’s “clumsy, bigoted lies.”
The statement from Andrew Bates, a Biden spokesman, said the president was “proving that he’s dumbfounded after Joe Biden’s selection of a strong running mate who he himself said not two weeks ago would be a ‘fine choice.’”
The Trump campaign did not respond to requests for comment on the president’s remarks…

On the first season of “The Apprentice” — where she was the sole Black woman — she was packaged as a villain, opposite Mr. Trump, whom she later worked for briefly as a presidential adviser. (Mr. Trump reacted to her book, “Unhinged: An Insider’s Account of the Trump White House,” by referring to Ms. Manigault Newman as “that dog.”)…

But using the White House as the backdrop for one of the peak political moments of the fall campaign raises questions about whether it would be a breach of the Hatch Act, a Depression-era law that prohibits federal employees from engaging in political activities while on the job. Mr. Trump himself is not subject to the act. But everyone who works for him, and who would be involved in setting up the event, would be.
In his interview with The New York Post, Mr. Trump did not address the legal issues. Instead, he appeared to be more concerned with ensuring that he would deliver the address in front of a crowd of supporters. “We could have quite a group of people. It’s very big, a very big lawn. We could have a big group of people,” he said.
Trump is also thinking of giving his acceptance speech at Gettysburg and desecrating that soil consecrated by the blood of thousands. He, the draft dodger.

This morning it caught a comment by someone never seen here before who called Biden senile, incompetent, and stupid, and labeled Harris as a sinister leftist who is a puppet of Black Lives Matter. Poor Trumpers can’t decide if she is a black Communist or not really black at all.
We need more reporters who aren’t afraid to ask tough questions. Trump is a liar and he should be held accountable.
One journalist should ask a hard question and when he is rebuffed, the next journalist should ask the same question. Each journalist should ask the same thing until Trump walks off stage in a huff.

The Huffington Post’s Senior White House Correspondent S.V. Date tells CNN’s Brianna Keilar why he bluntly asked President Donald Trump if he regretted “all of the lying” he had done over the past three years.
All the reliable analyses I’ve seen/ read say that VP pick has virtually zero affect on how people vote. There have been maybe 2 VP picks that swung elections in 75 yrs. These political pundits say, VP pick is just about who the prez candidate feels they can work productively w/. If this is the one Biden feels that way about, I’m fine with her. I think her assertive style complements Bidens’s laid-back style well: she’ll be able to float his ideas & defend them. She’ll represent us well abroad. She has what it takes to assume command if our aged Prez dies in office. Rep voters who tie themselves in knots over her mixed race, imagining her [as they did Obama] as a harbinger of some progressive future they want no part of are part of the Trumpista core & would never have swerved from a Trump vote anyway.

Since the start of the pandemic, American billionaires have been cleaning up. As more than 50 million Americans filed for unemployment insurance, billionaires became $637 billion richer. Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg’s wealth has ballooned 59 percent. Amazon’s Jeff Bezos’s, 39 percent. Walmart’s Walton family has added $25 billion.
Big drug company CEOs and their major investors are doing nicely, too. Since the start of the pandemic, Big Pharma has raised prices on over 250 prescription drugs, 61 of which are being used to treat Covid-19.
Apologists say this is the “free market” responding to supply and demand – the barons of Big Tech, online retailing, and Big Pharma merely providing what consumers desperately need during the pandemic.
But the market also operates under laws that ban profiteering, price gouging, and monopolizing, and that tax excess profits in wartime. Where did they go?
The Trump administration hasn’t enforced them.
Trump is also ignoring laws that ban trades on insider information. The White House is distributing billions in subsidies and loans to select corporations – enabling CEOs and boards to load up on stocks and stock options just before deals are announced, then rake in fat profits after stock prices surge.
Insiders from at least 11 companies have sold shares worth over $1 billion after such announcements, according to an analysis by the New York Times.
In late June, a San Francisco company called Vaxart announced that the Trump administration had selected it to develop a coronavirus vaccine. Presto. The value of stock options distributed to company insiders just weeks before increased six-fold. Stock options held by Vaxart’s CEO went from $4.3 million to more than $28 million…
Yet Trump has no problem letting billionaires illegally profit off the pandemic. He thinks that as long as they buoy the stock market, they’re helping the American economy.
That’s pure rubbish. The stock market is not America. The richest 1 percent of Americans own half the value of all shares of stock held by American households. The richest 10 percent owns 92 percent. For years now, stock prices have risen largely because profits have been siphoned from the wages of ordinary workers.
In the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression, stock prices are almost back to where they were before the pandemic began. Big corporations and major investors are doing fine. Billionaires are doing better than ever. But most Americans are sinking fast.
This isn’t just unfair. Much of it is illegal.

Hmm! That is how it is in election years. I am from Ghana and the presidential candidate for the opposition party has also chosen a woman to back him up. As a result of that there are insults being fired at her from different corners of the country. I would love you all to follow our politics. We will be going to the polls on December 7 this year. interestingly, some Ghanaians connect the out come of the USA elections to that of Ghana’s.
