Hey, Big Spender!
The Texas-based IDEA charter chain is best known for lavish spending—on the taxpayers’s dimes and dollars.
IDEA is the corporate charter chain that wanted to lease a private jet for its executives and their families, that bought a private box at pro basketball games, that lavished perks on its top employees.
And now it’s former Chief Financial Officer says IDEA owes him $1 million.
Betsy DeVos has lavished more than $200 million on IDEA, to support its expansion and the grand life style of its executives.
“Betsy DeVos has lavished more than $200 million on IDEA, to support its expansion and the grand lifestyle of its executives.”
True.
It’s clearly apparent that Betsy the Beast DeVos thinks rich, older white people (only if they support her and Trump) should own more than one yacht even if the working class has to pay for them. I wonder if BBD owns shares in company’s that make yachts.
“IDEA agreed to pay “actual and incidental costs incurred by the Chief Financial Officer related to the bi-weekly commuting to/from California and/or as otherwise necessary, and the reasonable living and transportation expenses while in the Rio Grande Valley performing his duties for IDEA,” according to the contract.”
All very grass roots and local, as you can see. Just your average Texas public school- run by people who live a thousand miles away, in California.
Now I guess we know why they needed the lavish aircraft. None of them live there.

and Administration officials will discuss a strategy to help our students get back to school safely
Another ed reform event that is “about” public education but deliberately excludes anyone who runs, attends, attended or supports a public school.
Another haranguing lecture delivered to “schools” that no one who has anything to do with an actual public school will hear.
Completely and utterly irrelevant to 90% of the students and families in this country. They may as well get together and recite the alphabet over and over. No one is listening.
The Trump Administration are aware that children are starting school all over the country, correct? And that we did it without them lifting a finger to help?
Public schools handled the whole crisis. No one else was interested. They begged for help. No one from the Trump Administration showed up for work. I read that DeVos has spent the last three months at her family compound in Michigan. Will she checking in to work sometime?
It’s the middle of August and the ed reformers in the Trump Administration just noticed that most of the schools in the country closed in March.
It’s not even “out of touch” at this point. They don’t live in the same country we do.
We handled it. Thanks but no thanks. You can all go back to writing anti-public school editorials and lobbying for vouchers- your real work.
Unbelievable…what’s the word I want here? Shameless, that’s it: shameless.
Corrupt to the core.
The Archdiocese of Washington D.C. has oversight of 95 schools. Media reported today that an assistant superintendent for the schools which are in Maryland and D.C. (receive taxpayer money in the form of vouchers and “scholarships”) has been charged with embezzling $500,000 which he used to fund a lavish lifestyle.
In separate indictments, the same person is charged with inappropriately receiving taxpayer money related to his filings for Covid bailout money.
Yes, and let us also remember that good ol’ boy Tom Torkelson was the darling of the charter supporters when he ran for educational commissioner in CA. Correct?
No! Two different people. Tom Torkelson is big time charter entrepreneur.
He is not the same person as Tom Torkelson, state superintendent of education in California.
Former California Superintendent Torlakson, former IDEA CFO Torkelson. TorLAKson, TorKELson. Torkelson was a slimy IDEA charter executive. Torlakson won an election to become state superintendent, beating Marshall Tuck, another slimy charter executive. Six degrees of separation. Charter schools exacerbate segregation, which used to be worse in the South. Thomas Jefferson, from Virginia in the South, most admired John Locke and Francis Bacon. Six degrees of Bacon.
Thank you, LCT. Tom Torlakson was a fine State Chief.
