That’s a trick question because a Governor Kemp has stiff competition from several other governors, such as Florida’s Ron DeSantis.
Politico interviewed Georgia Governor Brian Kemp. He said his early reopening of schools for full-time in-person instruction was going really well, except for the photo that went viral of high school students packed together in a hall while changing classes.
Under Kemp’s abdication of leadership, Georgia is fifth in the nation on the number of cases of COVID-19.
Photos shared widely on social media last week showed hallways packed shoulder to shoulder with students at North Paulding High School northwest of Atlanta. School officials later announced that six students and three staff members had tested positive for the coronavirus, and that the school would be closed Monday and Tuesday while the building is disinfected.
In nearby Cherokee County, 12 students and two staff members from a dozen schools tested positive for the virus during their first week back at school. The Cherokee County school system reported that more than 250 students with potential exposure had been sent home to quarantine for two weeks.
Cherokee County also drew attention because of online photos. Dozens of students at two of its high schools squeezed together for first-day-of-school senior photos. None wore masks.
WHY ask? The poor Deep South . . .
It’s a hard call in this company of fools- TN’s Bill Lee, FL’s DeSantis, TX’s Abbot.
it sometimes feels like a competition
a race to the bottom
Both Kemp and DeSantis are candidates for the “Thick as a Brick” award. Here’s a tip for voters. Do not vote for anyone that has any affiliations with the Tea Party, Freedom Caucus or white supremacy groups. They mostly support “small government.” They will make the government so small that it cannot and will not respond in a crisis. The people will be left to fend for themselves.
No! Brian Kemp doesn’t behave this way because he’s stupid–although he is pretty dumb. Kemp behaves because his career depends on sucking up to Donald Trump and the right-wing money men who control Republican politics in Georgia. He fears a hostile tweet from Trump more than he fears the death of a few dozen Georgia school children.
Paul, you are right. Kemp is venal and a Trump sycophant.
Perhaps voters should not put those in office those that will not stand up to bullies. They should not vote for cowards.
Perhaps voters DIDN’T put Kemp in office–Kemp put Kemp in office: he was the Secretary of State while he ran for guv. (against Stacey Abrams) & there was massive voter suppression: over 300K were deemed (incorrectly) ineligible to vote; 53,000 voter registrations were delayed by Kemp’s office, “disproportionately affected Black voters, result(ing) in allegations that Kemp was using voter suppression to increase his chances of winning.”
“Stacey Abrams’ campaign filed a lawsuit against the state of GA…”
Oh, & I nominate Kemp for The Darwin Award.
(DeINSANEtis, too.)
God, Diane, I don’t know. We’re talking about a pretty deep well here….
The dumb is scary, dark and deep
But they have “promi$e$” to keep
And cash to stowe before they sleep
And ca$h to stowe before they sleep
The best, SomeDAM!
& voters to suppress so
offices they’ll keep…
Holy “gobsmacked” Batman, the DEBUNKING of the “waiting for superman”
concept***, has yet to smack the gob between their ears.
***Children are waiting for Superman to get them back on their feet and help them.
Kemp seems to wear the stupid coat while the taller children wear their own.
They seem to long for the electoral superman to get them back on their feet
and help them.
Of course, it’s always the electoral superman’s abdication of leadership,
mixed with the unelected supermen’s/superwomen’s abdication of leadership.
Problem is “waiting for superman” is bullshit…
Well, I’m sitting here in OK, with the only governor who has tested positive. He visited a school recently, after his quarantine. Pictures showed him wearing his mask correctly, then under his nose, then under his chin while talking to a classroom. He has steadfastly refused to mandate masks, and since the beginning has posted photos of himself in crowded settings, maskless.
Let us stop with the headlines characterizing any of these THUGS as “Dumb”. None of them are dumb but they are DEADLY. And they have been PAID to believe that they can get away with politically-motivated mass death and infection in Georgia, Indiana, Texas, South Dakota, Oklahoma and beyond. They are an infestation, a virus unto themselves, foisted upon an electorate who was not paying attention or protesting loudly enough. It has taken this present moment to shake more of us Wide Awake. May our numbers increase.
Lot’s of competition for worst state Governor. Missouri is dealing with a special legislative session for crime bills that could include charging 14 year old children as adults.
Let’s not forget the school administrators throughout the state that opened schools — without the CDC recommended guidelines, more afraid of the political biases of the parents than the safety of the students and faculties. As others have pointed out, they have no problem with regulating students (girls) clothing and hairstyles, but can’t mandate masks? They have abandoned their responsibilities.
