This is the current (and evolving) list of my speaking engagements in connection with the publication of my new book: SLAYING GOLIATH: THE PASSIONATE RESISTANCE TO PRIVATIZATION AND THE FIGHT TO SAVE AMERICA’S PUBLIC SCHOOLS.
I am trying not to wear myself out. Ten years ago, I hopped from city to city like a mountain goat.
But now I am 81 years old, and my knees are worn out. I have to pace myself.
Come out and say hello if you are in one of these cities.
SLAYING GOLIATH is a pro-public education, pro-teacher, pro-social justice, pro-common-good book. It is a book meant to give hope and encouragement to those who stand up to the billionaires and fight the status quo of choice and high-stakes testing. It contains inspiring stories of parents, students, teachers, and civil rights activists who took action against the powerful and won. At some of these events, the bookstore charges a modest fee to cover its expenses. Most are free.
Yay, Diane! 👍🏽
Be careful please. We need you. ❤️
Hello Diane: I hope to attend the one in LA. However, are you going to do another BookTV interview about the book (C-SPAN)? Also, I think you are due one of their longer in-depth author talks where they have a call-in. Even if you’ve done these before, a new one would be timely for addressing our current issues and how charters are showing their bad roots as we speak.
But I certainly understand, by comparison in my own life-time, how my energy runs lower now than then; and I’m “only” 73. CBK
I was going to ask. C-Span is often recording at Politics and Prose one of Diane’s venues. Perhaps that session could also be on C-Span’s “BOOK TV” I hope so.
I hope so too!
One of the nice things about BookTV is their online archives–they apparently keep everything. I often refer others to them, as you would
Google, because we cannot read everything we want to read; but there, at least we can get the author talking post-writing about their work.
Diane Ravitch and BookTV: A match made in heaven. CBK
Diane On C-SPAN’s BookTV: I find their author interviews (with call-ins) that take place at “live” book festivals particularly helpful and off-the-cuff exciting. They are commonly an hour or more and so you get a chance to go in-depth with the book and related issues.
Maybe you could also shoot for the D.C. book festival in the spring? Just some thoughts. . . CBK
I suggested it to my publisher
I don’t know but am inquiring about whether Book TV will have me on.
I was interviewed in 2000 by the original creator of BookTV, whose name escapes me, and it was a bizarre interview as I could tell that he never read the book (Left Back).
His first question was, “when was John Dewey born?” and that threw me for a loop. I think I got it right but it was irrelevant to the book
You know I’m excited. I’ll have to swing it so I don’t have too many essays to grade during the weekend you’re coming to town so I can be there.
The Miami visit is labeled as being in Carol Gables, FL. However, it should read Coral Gables, FL. I wish you the best on your tour.
You are right. I have to wait until my IT friend fixes it, as the format is not within my control.
CORAL GABLES!!
Damn that autocorrect!
Looking forward to seeing you in Coral Gables, Diane!
And there with you in spirit at all these other venues, as are so many of us.
Bless you. Please, please, please take it easy between these. Lots of rest and self care!
Thank you!
I’m adding Houston, Dallas, and Austin in April. Dates to be determined.
When you go to Houston, you should contact Egberto Willies, a Bernie progressive, that has a daily national political podcast on Facebook and Youtube. He also writes for The Coffee Party Movement. He supports public education and has had the parent activists on that are fighting against Houston’s state takeover of the schools. He is a naturalized American-Panamanian. He is also a former software engineer. People call or write into his show. He has had a number of politicians on his show as well. He is very civil and good natured when conservative trolls are uncivil in their comments. You can find him on Facebook under Politics Done Right.
Wow! How do you do it?
I am 78 and couldn’t do that much traveling…
In fact, I am looking for a ride with someone to the NPE conference — where I have booked from a Friday to Monday.
I have to find a care-giver to stay with my husband while I am away., but driving there is much forme these days, and I hate flying.
I wish I could travel again. Here is a link to tiny portion of my traveling days .

I hope you will be filmed at one of these stops for air play on CSPAN3!
Sorry I hadn’t read the previous comments asking the same thing. As someone else mentioned, they are always broadcasting book lectures and signings at Politics and Prose on C-SPAN3.
You must come to Houston…I will sponsor !!!!BR

Can’t wait to read your new book. As always, thanks for all that you’ve done for public education. Wish we could get you back to Pittsburgh for this, too.
Cheers!

Josh,
I will be speaking in Philly at NPE conference. Join us!

How do we get you to come back to Connecticut Dr. Ravitch? Sure would love to see you here again.
The distance is not great. Find someone to create an event.
Who on your end do I need to speak to about the specifics?
