Newly elected Democratic Governor Andy Beshear kept a campaign promise and threw out the Bevin-appointed state school board. The Bevin board still has unexpired terms and they plan to sue to hold on to their seats. Their state commissioner Wayne Lewis–no friend to public schools or teachers–made clear he will hang on to his position as long as possible.
Governor Beshear named a new board. The old one is heading for the courts.
“This morning, I reorganized the state board of education and appointed new members who support public education,” announced the new governor.”
School board members who support public education! What a crazy idea.
Now let’s hope the voters of Kentucky, having made the good decision to elect this Dem Gov, continue making good decisions, and vote out Moscow Mitch McConnell to elect Lt. Colonel Amy McGrath. Dems can make all the difference in saving our public schools, and our nation.
and what a wonderful thing to know that many of the voters were inspired by Kentucky’s teachers
This is what Gov. Wolf should have done in Pennsylvania a long time ago instead of wasting time trying to work with the intransigent charter lobby. In the meantime the Commonwealth continues to bleed public money into private pockets.
NPR has done a really good job researching and reporting on DeVos and student loans.

It’s a real public service, and relevant to current and future student loan borrowers who have to deal with the USDOE. These people had to move heaven and earth just to get any of the loan forgiveness they were promised. They still don’t have it and there’s no urgency at all- in fact, instead of processing the loan relief she’s now rewriting the rules for loan relief. These people will be senior citizens by the time they finally get their discharge.
AHA. You see…. we can make a difference.
Susan,
