You are invited to a conversation between the legendary Bill Phillis, fearless fighter for equity in education, and me, at a very special event in Columbus, Ohio.

“The event will take place Thursday, May 16, 2019 from 4:30 to 8:00pm at the Sheraton Columbus Capitol Square, 75 E. State St, Columbus, OH 43215.
“Experience a conversation between two GIANTS in the world of public education advocacy: renowned education author and historian, Dr. Diane Ravitch, and Ohio’s own William L. Phillis, Executive Director of the Ohio Coalition for Equity & Adequacy of School Funding!
“Celebrate the successes gained through the combined efforts of individuals and groups affiliated with public school districts, as well as many grassroots organizations, and be inspired to continue moving public education forward in the Buckeye State.”

It’s a good time to come to Ohio. I’m as amazed as anyone to see it, but after a 20 year hiatus where our entire state government did nothing but promote charters and vouchers, they are finally, finally putting in some actual WORK on public schools.
If it can happen here it can happen anywhere. This state was as captured by ed reform as the federal government is. I don’t know what happened- I assume someone saw some political peril to continuing to bash, defund and destroy public schools, but it changed.

You and Bill Phillis are indispensable. May you live long and prosper. (That’s from Washington Irving, not Star Trek.)

How delightful! I did a little poking around about this. The phrase was used by an actor named Joseph Jefferson, from the 1800s, who portrayed Rip Van Winkle on the stage.

Looking forward to it.
Thank you, Diane, for coming to Ohio and Bill Phillis for his work in Ohio.
Curious if the privatizers from Fordham- Ohio will attend. If they do, I will ask them where’s the compensation to taxpayers for the ECOT debacle.

At the linked site there is a way to contact the event sponsors. They respond quickly with

Drats! I’m traveling that day. I hope all our friends from Ohio will attend and bring a teacher or friend who doesn’t get it with them.
