Bob Braun is one of the keenest investigative reporters in the nation, who worked for New Jersey’s leading newspaper—the Star-Ledger—for half a century. Now, retired, he keeps watch over the corporate privatization of New Jersey’s public schools, especially those in Newark. That city, it’s schools, and it’s children have been in a Reformer Petri dish for decades.
The schools were taken over by the states in the 1990s. At last, the state has restored an elected board, but the politicians are maneuvering to gain control of the board.
Sadly, Mayor Ras Baraka is leading the effort for a takeover by the charter industry, after running as the anti-charter candidate for mayor.
There is a school board election in Newark on Tuesday.

So Mayor Ras Baraka is another fake Democrat, a wolf in sheep’s clothing, a false prophet making a profit, a liar, a crook, a con and a paid for shill and minion of the Koch brothers and/or Walton family.
Is there anyone we can actually trust to do what they promise to do when they are running for office. Will they all say takes to get in and then do what their masters order them to do.
Does that make Ras Baraka a slave to the Koch brothers and or Walton family?
Gosh, I hope AOC is the real deal and she won’t surprise us down the road when she starts introduction legislation and voting for all the wrong legislation. If she is the real deal, no wonder she is under attack by the corporate Democrats, the fakes, the liars, the corrupt.
The U.S. needs another FDR to turn on the ruling class and crush them.
How depressing. I had hopes that the son of Amiri Baraka could begin to turn around the damage done by Christie/ Booker/ Cerf/ Anderson. Getting the NSD back into local hands seemed a Herculean task, & he managed it– on an anti-charter platform. What a disappointment.
More than sad–shockingly tragic for Newark.
Some apples, however, roll very, very far from their trees. Look at Jonah Edelman (pro-charter founder of Stand on Children & educational agent provocateur)–his mother, Marian Wright Edelman, founded the Children’s Defense Fund & his father, Peter Edelman, is a law professor who has worked on issues of poverty, welfare & juvenile justice, & has written articles about such and several books, one titled Not a Crime to be Poor. He had resigned as the Clinton Administration’s Ass’t. Sec’y. of Health, Education & Welfare over welfare reform he viewed a harmful & right-leaning enacted during that presidency.
IMO, DINOs are even worse than Republicans: it’s quite clear where the latter stand, but a DINO is a wolf in sheep’s clothing who has tricked trusting voters.
And people wonder why citizens don’t bother to vote…
harshest TRUTH: “DINOs are even worse than Republicans: it’s quite clear where the latter stand, but a DINO is a wolf in sheep’s clothing who has tricked trusting voters.”
