If you live in District 19 in Ohio, I urge you to vote for Louise Valentine.
She is running against Andrew Brenner, chair of the Senate Education Committee, who despises public schools. Under Brenner’s malign leadership, Ohio has supported corrupted charter operators and ineffective vouchers, which drain money from public schools that belong to the community. With Brennan in charge, Ohio’s taxpayers have been bilked of billions of dollars that should have gone to public schools but ended up in the pockets of profiteers.
Louise Valentine has pledged to support high-quality public schools and to insist on charter school accountability.

It’s a measure of how much contempt Ohio ed reformers have for public schools that they put Brenner on the education committee.
He publicly brags about his goal of eradicating public schools so they choose him as the lead person on public schools. Incredible. You’re paying him to work as hard as he can every day to weaken and then close the school your child attends. It’s ludicrous.
No one in their right mind would agree to this, yet that’s what happened when ed reform lobbyists captured our entire state political apparatus. We ended up with a huge group of public employees who spend their days lobbying against our public schools. Proudly! The proclaim this on their campaign websites!

When public employees do so, they betray the public trust.
Chester Finn drills down on the threat education poses to the oligarchy in his July 18, 2018 post at the Fordham Institute. He criticizes Brookings and, in so doing, we learn how scholars, supposedly objective, produce results that benefit the richest 0.1%. The Hoover Institute is the poster child for oligarchy.

How much are the Fordham backers and DeVos spending to defeat Valentine?
