What should progressives do?

We need to do what the Wisconsin press did not do, and inform people that charters are not public schools. Like Carol said, they have private boards whose members can also be on the boards of vendors. So, they can use taxpayers’ money to buy things like books, computers, and buildings — from themselves. And what was that statistic, $250 million in waste, fraud, and abuse! All weakening the public schools! These issues are heinous to progressives and conservatives alike. People just lack factual information.

Maybe I heard Tim Slekar say $250 billion. Then there would be the opportunity cost. Half a trillion dollars down the drain, and corroding the plumbing.

Michigan law calls them “public school academies”. Maybe that means the founders (or the funders) are creating charters so they can study their impacts on public schools?
