What is SUPES Academy?
Former Chicago Superintendent Barbara Byrd-Bennett is in federal prison because she took payoffs from SUPES.
Now Dallas Dance has been indicted.
How about an investigation of this SUPES Academy?

There’s so much of this. They’re hiring “brand ambassadors” for charter programs and online “blended learning” platforms now.
I don’t know how ordinary people will determine who is on what payroll and who to trust as an honest broker. They’ll have to research so much.
We had a school “imagining” session a couple of years ago and I was frantically Googling the consultant because he sounded like a salesman for High Tech High. He WAS essentially a salesman for High Tech High. It’ll be a full time job sorting thru all the LLC’s and various entities and determining if you’re getting scammed.

Here’s another glowing piece promoting AltSchool:
“For teachers, and particularly for parents, the move to competency-based assessment that accompanies personalized learning can be challenging. “It’s a paradigm shift for a lot of people,” Vannasdall says. “But what we’re seeing is–these kids want to come to school, they want to show up. It’s no longer the teacher’s classroom, so to speak.”
Altschool is a company. They’re pushing a product. There’s nothing wrong with that- it’s what companies do. But why this insistence that they’re somehow “giving” these schools something? That they have some “mission” that is somehow holier and more pure than any other contractor?
This nutty idea that public schools are somehow LUCKY enough to have attracted the attention of ed tech investors and that we are beholden to them and must shift “paradigms” to go along with the contractor is ridiculous.
Public schools are a huge market. Contractors serve YOU, you don’t serve them. This is a business transaction. They want in your school because they want to test drive product on YOUR students. You shouldn’t be paying them, they should be paying YOU.

I have a NEW word: “EW” = Electronic World. We are being EW-ed (expression of disgust or distaste) by those who think everything should be online. I beg to differ.
EW is limiting, and that is what those in EW want —to limit us.

Mercedes Schneider, how do we get in touch w/you?
Paul Vallas is planning to run for mayor in Chicago, & a columnist had praised him for his
work in New Orleans (!) Philadelphia (!) (have to contact Helen Gym) Bridgeport, CT. (ditto to you, Jonathan Pelto) &–get this–Haiti (yeah, right).
Chicago voters need to be disabused of the notion that Vallas “improved” these school districts, pronto.

Vallas was a disaster in Philadelphia.
He launched a vast experiment in privatization, which failed. He left the District with a large deficit.

Vallas was driven out of Bridgeport. State law requires that superintendents have a degree in administration. He had none.
