A group of civil rights and education organizations called on Governor Andrew Cuomo to return the money he has received from hedge fund manager Daniel Loeb. Cuomo hopes to run for president in 2020: what matters most to him? Campaign funding or the civil rights constituency?
PRESS RELEASE
CIVIL RIGHTS AND COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS CALL ON GOVERNOR CUOMO TO ENTIRELY DISASSOCIATE HIMSELF FROM DAN LOEB, RETURN CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTIONS FOLLOWING RACIST REMARKS
ALBANY, NY (August 11, 2017) — In the wake of hedge fund billionaire Dan Loeb’s racist attack on State Senate Democratic Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins on Wednesday, 14 organizations have released a letter calling on Governor Andrew Cuomo to disassociate himself from Loeb, a Cuomo ally and supporter, and to return the more than $170,000 in campaign donations that he has received from Loeb.
The organizations made the demand in a letter addressed to Governor Cuomo Friday morning. The letter states, “Loeb’s extremely offensive and racist attack on Senator Stewart-Cousins requires swift and dramatic action. As a longstanding ally of Loeb, and the leader of the State of New York and of the Democratic Party in New York, it is essential that you provide leadership to show that such racist statements will not be tolerated in any way. This must begin with you: It would be unconscionable to keep Mr. Loeb’s money and to continue to allow him to influence policy in Albany after his un-American attack on Leader Stewart-Cousins.”
“It is imperative that you disassociate yourself entirely from Dan Loeb and send a clear message that he has no place in public policy in New York State,” the letter continues. Read the full letter here.
The organizations that signed the letter include Action Potluck, Alliance for Quality Education, Badass Teachers Association, The Black Institute, Brooklyn Movement Center, Citizen Action of New York, Hedge Clippers, Justice League NYC, Make the Road New York, New York Communities for Change, New York Indivisible, Strong Economy for All, True Blue NY, and Working Families Party.

DeVos is meeting on apprenticeships today.
I’ll bet you fifty dollars she didn’t invite a single person who represents public schools.
Are public schools formally barred from the US Department of Education now? I know they don’t hire public school graduates but are we allowed in the building?
What do the DeVos and Trump families know about working for a living anyway?
Do they plan to tell young people they should inherit wealth? Do any of these people know a single hourly wage earner personally?

Apprenticeship? I don’t understand.
How is any intern supposed to learn about education and education policy from someone who has superbly and absolutely no experience in teaching and learning?
Maybe these eager apprentices will learn profoundly about pimping and bullying, and how their master bleach-in-a-bottle teacher can show them how to artfully combine both skills to produce outcomes.

With his obscene wealth. It is a good piece on obscene wealth.

I apologize, Joel. It is about Loeb, and he is obscene in all directions. I was responding to Chiara’s thoughts, but you’re right, let’s focus on the evil actions of Loeb, who is a plutocrat and needs to go.
Well said on your part.

I know you were responding to Chiara , I didn’t mind. I was looking for a place to post a great article ,that also tied to the post and the billionaires for education reform.
But to continue your line and Chiara’s traditionally apprenticeships were under the Labor Dept where it is also hard to ever find someone who ever labored . But they were paid for by employers. If there were a shortage of skilled labor who required training For a long term position, the employers would tripping over themselves to provide. that training . Not looking for a government hand out in the form of Public Schools to provide that training .
A terrible shortage of skilled construction tradesman exists, willing to work at $17 an hour. No shortage at all at $55 plus benefits.

Dr. Ravitch,
Plutocrats may not likely go, but there is never an impossibility of them remaining on in any type of dominance indefinitely.
Look what happened to Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette.
I will push this following idea with great force and persistence: I think Americans are starting to grow up more than ever. What becomes of that and at what rate and how their newfound maturity gets applied is to be seen, but it is an amazing step in a productive direction.
I think there is great hope coupled with a lot of heavy lifting.

If Louis and Marie had a few Blacks to distract the attention of the masses with , we would still be wait for 15’s deluge. Lloyd may have a point. Snowflakes might have to drop their objection to the second amendment.

Has there been a flurry of pro-charter articles in local newspapers, including throwaways?
A flyer within the Pasadrna Weekly, CA, is so misleading. I’m curious if there is a more widespread effort, at this time of the year, to poison parents’ minds.

Well, good for those organizations, but I would be astonished if Cuomo actually did this.

I would be astonished if a third of what Andrew put out there he ever had any intention on doing. No less committing to do something he has no intention on doing.

Perhaps Mr Cuomo will want to hold the $170,000 just a little longer…in his other hand would probably be a Box of tissues for his tears as he ponders the questions…why do I have to give it back?…why can’t I just keep it?…after all, possession is what counts…
Such is this man who would sell his own soul and integrity for cash…or any part of the public domain to appease the Loeb’s, as long as Cuomo’s hands are greased.
Our cesspool governor…our state’s disgrace…our nation’s nightmare.
Every billboard should read
“Cuomo and Loeb…working together…
Teachers and public schools…working for our children…
The former for theft and tyranny,
The latter…for democracy.
Before voting, look into your children’s eyes…
Then cast your ballots”

Steve, so right. Cuomo is the rightwing of the Democratic Party. He enters the re-election campaign of 2018 with $25 million cash. And another year to raise more. Money corrupts.

Unless one buys the argument that charter schools are a civil rights issue it’s VERY clear that what matters most to Governor Cuomo: campaign funding… Like the billionaires who never get enough money, Mr. Cuomo can never have enough campaign contributions…

Cuomo gets around the dilemma by having campaign funders like Loeb pretend to be into civil rights, hiding their racist colonialist attitudes

Loeb is the evidence that DFER should be expelled from the Democratic Party.

I hear DFER was sued in California to force them to remove the ‘Democrats’ from their name, as they happily mix campaign cash in from Republican donors.
