I long for the good old days when we could lead our lives without wondering what the president had done or said. Generally, weeks went by without my giving much thought to the president’s activities.
All that has changed. Now that we have a president who is given to impulsive actions, surprising tweets, and off-the-cuff remarks that reverse longstanding policy, it is impossible to ignore him. This is what he wants. Constant attention. All eyes on him. It’s like watching a train wreck in real time but it is nonstop.
Donald Trump is a loop that plays over and over.
Read the full transcript of his interview with the Wall Street Journal in Politico, which was first to get it. CNN posted a summary of the interview. See if you can find a coherent sentence or a coherent thought process.
The latest story I read is too amazing to ignore. Trump doesn’t seem to draw a distinction between his wish and external reality. He promised to end the war in Afghanistan, this guy who never served in the military. But it is not over yet, and he wants to fire the top commander there.
And it gets worse.
“During the July 19 meeting, Trump repeatedly suggested that Defense Secretary James Mattis and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Joseph Dunford replace Gen. John Nicholson, the commander of U.S. forces in Afghanistan, because he is not winning the war, the officials said. Trump has not met Nicholson, and the Pentagon has been considering extending his time in Afghanistan.
“Over nearly two hours in the situation room, according to the officials, Trump complained about NATO allies, inquired about the United States getting a piece of Afghan’s mineral wealth and repeatedly said the top U.S. general there should be fired. He also startled the room with a story that seemed to compare their advice to that of a paid consultant who cost a tony New York restaurateur profits by offering bad advice.”
He told them to end the war, and they didn’t. He doesn’t understand why they didn’t do what he told them to do. As to mineral wealth in Afghanistan, I recall that he said during the campaign that the U.S. Should have seized Iraq’s oil to compensate for our efforts on their behalf. At the time, many people said that to do so would have been a war crime. Apparently he hasn’t abandoned the idea of seizing another country’s natural resources as war booty.

Out of control all his life. Not merely a lair, he is unable to deal with observable reality, and changes it to fit his perspective… he claims that the boys scouts called him to tell him it was the best speech ever given at the Jamboree… even as the head of the scouts apolgized for it.

The Republican Party enables Trump’s out of touch with reality insanity. That should be a warning about the GOP too.

Lloyd,
The Republicans are starting to speak up. Sen Flake of Az has written a new book saying that Trump will destroy the GOP and our institutions as well. They realize now, with his poll numbers at historic lows, that they can ignore him.

I couldn’t continue reading that WSJ interview – DJT’s comments were making my eyes cross. I had to read several quotes several times just to try to understand what he was talking about. It was worse than my fourth graders.

I wish I could quote the person, but I can’t recall his name – but basically, he said that the Republicans, on realizing Trump could win, were all in. All in, because their far right and right leaning agendas and policies could be pushed and they thought it would be a slam dunk. Trump is clueless, but the worst part for the republicans is that is is less than a figurehead because he indeed does have his own opinions, and his opinions are always grandiose, and Trump won’t just shut up, sit back, and let the republicans do their thing. That is the wrench in the stew for those who republicans who compromised themselves in embracing Trump, that Trump himself, with his idiotic tweets and self-aggrandizing behavior, and whatever it is that he is illegally involved in. Trump’s presidency is costing America BILLIONS, and its been 6 months.
The sooner America impeaches Trump, the better. Then we can get rid of his daughter, his son in law, who have no right to be in the WH, and everything/everyone else that was baggage come along with Trump.

Someone in the world of golf said that Trump called the White House ” a dump.” That seems to be consisrent with Trump’s opinion about anything he has not bought and paid for and decorated with fake gold.

Congress appears to be beginning to find ways around Trump. They have forced him into signing the sanctions bill against the Russians, and there appears to be quiet bipartisan work on healthcare. The military appears to be ignoring his tweets on transgender soldiers. Trump may decide for himself he needs an exit strategy, so in his mind he can depart from a position of strength.

Yes. Maybe Kelly will seem to control the information Trump receives but in reality build a fence around him.

It actually could be even worse. Can you imagine what they would be trying if their attempt to shut out congress and the legal system during the Muslim Ban had worked? If you haven’t read this: http://www.thedailybeast.com/border-patrol-ordered-to-block-congressmen-during-travel-ban

Trump’s impulsive erratic outbursts and antics force a great deal of attention on him and a great deal of wonder, worry, disbelief, anger, etc. But, he is a sideshow to the worst damage being done now by big business in the economic sector. NYTimes today has front-page story on how big biz is thriving in the regulation-free climate handcuffing the agencies supposed to protect environment, consumers, etc. Trump the egomaniac vulgar tyrant rants and raves while distracting from his creation of the perfect business climate for looting the nation, the people, and the planet. Policy changes in education, environment, consumer protection, judicial appointments, defunding women’s health, pretending there is a need to defend the rights of white students against affirmative action and to protect elections from phantom fraud, etc., are where the most damage is accumulating.

Indeed, there’s far too much concern with that nasty orange pimple on the surface of the Body Politic, and not enough for the metastatic malignancies it’s a symptom of.

Steve Miller is one of the main “voices” for Trump on those rare occasions when Trump is reasonably coherent.
Miller is getting to be well known as more than a speechwriter for Trump. He is a White House policy advisor. He concurs with Steve Bannon on a number of issues, but is even more hard right and aggressively self-confident about his argumentative skills.
Miller is quick to express his distain for “liberal cosmopolitan bias” which he is looking for everywhere.
Here is brief post to help you get acquainted with Steve Miller. I think he will be in the news as a spokesperson for Trump policy initiatives, as he was yesterday on the matter of changes in immigration policy to favor people who are speakers of English, people who have money, Ivy League credentials, and skills for in-demand jobs.

The Republican Party rode Trump to victory in the election, but cannot control him. He doesn’t follow the Republican agenda and does what he wants. His rants and comments are out of control, but watch the hidden agenda of Trump and his kind. He is changing how we do business. He is taking all controls away from the Government and is giving more and more power to Big Business. We will find the country in a place we can’t get away from when he is done and we will wonder how it happened. The power take over is being done little by little and we think he is crazy, yeah, crazy like a fox. I hope Congress, the Senate, Judges, and the States see this before it is too late. I see the future and I don’t like it and am scared of it.
