CNN reported that Realty Winner, the woman accused of leaking a top-secret document about Russian interference in the 2016 election, called Trump the “orange fascist” on a social media account.
Now we know why she leaked that document and why she will never be pardoned. Ten years in jail.

Diane, We need to track this and try to protect her. Be prepRED to raise Holy Hell. Jack Gill

Jack,
I wish we could. She is in federal custody, will have a trial, and faces 10 years in the slammer.

I heard one of her lawyers on CNN make the point that it is the obligation of the government to justify why the document is classified.
Not one person has been able to say what it is in the document that endangers American interests. In fact, just the opposite is true. It is keeping this document hidden that endangers our democracy.
The document is proof that Americans have been lied to when the government claimed that there was no evidence Russia tried to hack the election. There is evidence. And according to one Senator, more than this. But it has been kept “classified” in order to keep it from the public. Why?

What is “top secret” about the document? It didn’t seem to have any details that needed to be kept secret.

When Daniel Ellsberg released the Pentagon Papers regarding the Vietnam War in 1971, he faced 12 felony charges. According to a point online:
“Daniel Ellsberg is a former U.S. Marine and military analyst who precipitated a constitutional crisis in 1971 when he released the “Pentagon Papers.” The papers comprised the U.S. military’s account of theater activities during the Vietnam War. Ellsberg released top secret documents to The New York Times. His release of the Pentagon Papers succeeded in substantially eroding public support for the Vietnam War. A succession of related events, including Watergate, eventually Nixon s resignation.”
The Bush White House leak regarding Valerie Plame and Trump’s casually revealing intel from Israel to the Reusdians were much worse than what Ms. Winter’s leaked regarding Russia’s interference in our 2016 election. She deserves whistleblower protections. Ms. Winter has not jeopardized any investigations or endangered any troop or intelligent assets’ lives. Despite her comments regarding trump, her motives were honestly patriotic.

Sorry about the typos. I meant Russians. Also, Ms. Winter’s leaked information has not imperiled lives. I apologize. I was typing on my phone.

I agree. She served in the military and was a patriot, which is more than I can say for many of her Republican critics.
Leaking the name of a spy as the Republicans did served to endanger all the people who were her contacts and prevented her from continuing to gather intelligence that would help our country.
Leaking this document tells us that Russia tried to hack voting information on computers. Who does that harm? Trump? A foreign country whose leader seems to have unusual power over our President?

When you go to work for a security agency such as NSA you are made well aware of what to do and not to do with classified information. You are also made aware of the consequences. She knew better than to do this.

She did know better and she made a choice knowing she would suffer consequences. She is a hero of democracy. She shows far more courage than the DC politicians (Dems & Reps) sitting around trying to cover their own butts.

Yes, exactly so, Duane.
And I feel sorry for the people who think that they need to keep their mouths shut and be, as you said, “Good Germans,” no matter what is going on.
Actually, no, I don’t feel sorry for them at all. I think they are guilty of crimes against humanity, and should be tried at the International Court in The Hague.
Not that they will be.

What made this information “classified”? Because it embarrassed Trump?

Thank goodness for someone willing to put their life on the line for their country and for democracy. I wish more people would start letting loose with the info as long as it doesn’t endanger lives or give away military secrets. All of the politicians (Dem and Rep) need to know that the masses are starting to revolt and they should be afraid. There have been too many administrations that have taken the common working man for granted for far too long. This woman is a hero.

Excellent post. This clip is certainly relevant to our present reality.
Unfortunately, things didn’t work out all that well for those who staged thhis particular uprising. However, over time, France became a far more egalitarian country thanks to such actions.
Without France, there would be no “U.S.A, U.S.A”. Perhaps it’s time we listened to some or their wisdom and struck a bit of fear into our own rulers and their masters.

Gotta’ say that I can’t disagree with her assessment – and the fact that she will spend 10 years in prison only strengthens my opinion.
I find Gayle Fallon’s “she knew” comment distressingly black and white. Without whistle-blowers, where would be be?

John Kiriakou, CIA Officer and Whistleblower of CIA Torture Program. Mr. Kiriakou said he would do it again. Not all leaks are the same. Scooter Libby (and probably other members of White House staff) leaked Valerie Plame’s identity and endangered lives of CIA assets. They were angry about Plame’s husband, Ambassador Wilson, report regarding chemical weapons in Iraq. Only Libby was sentenced. The Obama administration came down very hard on leakers and prosecuted several people under Espionage Act.
I agree that maintaining secret is important unless your government is lying and engaging in illegal activities.
Daniel Ellsberg said Manning and Snowden are whistleblowers and heroes.

IMHO, people know who is their master and what is their utmost morality. Therefore, the consequence of their chosen action(s) will be judged by their chosen master and their chosen morality.
In short, all terrorists commit their crimes which are against innocent human beings = they are in violation of humanity regardless of their beliefs. In other word, all terror acts and its master belong to subhuman race.
if people work for subhuman master, they do not need to obey their orders. Yes, they will face to their consequences. However, they must know their way out before the consequence falls on their lives. Back2basic
