This story about Jared Kushner’s real estate empire will appear on Sunday in the New York Times Magazine.
It is a very disturbing narrative about Jared’s vast number of rental apartments in suburban Baltimore and New Jersey. His company is relentless in pursuing tenants who move out before their lease expires. They take them to court, clean out their bank accounts, garnish their wages. Meanwhile, tenants complain about leaky ceilings, black mold, poor maintenance.
A very disturbing account. Are there ethical issues? Pull up a comfy chair and judge for yourself.
And why am I NOT surprised? He married into a slum lord family. Wonder what goes on at Mar-A-Lago?
I am not suggesting the DEMs are any better. The DEMs gave away the working class.
I didn’t expect anything less from this POS.
I really don’t understand why Trump and his family are so ruthless. Does money do that to people? They’ve attended elite private schools. Do these schools teach superiority above others?
I simply don’t understand how someone with money could become so callous towards those who are barely scraping by to exist and then plan to take everything they have. Do you have to have no compassion to be wealthy?
Trump’s proposed budget takes from the poor and gives to the wealthy. It’s a reverse Robin Hood. I find it disgusting.
“Disgusting” is an accurate description.
My theory is that many people who make lots of money do so, knowingly, at the expense of others. Many have extremely aggressive personalities and believe in competition along with the concept of Social Darwinism. It’s the weaker person’s fault that they let you step on him or her.
Once that money is made, they hunger for still more (I know this for a fact). Greed feeds upon itself…and ends up effecting others.
You’ve gotta be a rat to be a player in the rat race. And the higher the stakes, the bigger the rat.
Richard Dawkins book, The Selfish Gene, written when he taught Sociology in Britain in 1973, explains this behavior.
Thanks, Ellen
It’s greed, plain and simple. Greed coupled with doling out jobs to the onsite employees who need a paycheck to scrimp by, and also with law firms that have no ethics or scruples.
I live in a state (RI) where the Democratic governor, a former Wall St equity capitalist and now millionaire is a narcissist like Trump and yes money does that to some people with psychopath tendencies. In today’s paper alone, the reporter did a “connect the dots” story that showed Gov raimondo going to another fundraiser-In fact she is known for being more out of state than in state and the bottom line of the article was the fact that she’s pretty much on the take bringing in outsiders to RI and using taxpayer economic dev. money pretty much as bribes – to build up a resume- and the reality is that she is clueless as to what the people really want and stand for…She is a Trump clone- and a closeted Republican multi millionaire but RI is a blue state so she ran as a Dem to win.Like Trump can be callous that even the feds fined her for screwing up UHIP, a major health and human service infrastructure project to ensure that all public benefits (Child care, food stamps welfare benefits) are disbursed in a timely manner. It will take a year to straighten out her incompetence.
Narcissists never blame themselves; they throw anyone under the bus that gets in the way of their agenda and that describes the RI gov to a T.
Trump’s budget takes from the poor and gives to the wealthy. RI’s Gov took from the vulnerable and she took from the retirees and pensioners and transferred their wealth to her hedgefund chums. This is how narcissists are: they have exaggerated feelings of self-importance, a lack of understanding of others’ feelings and take advantage of others. So as one reads of Kushner, RI-ers read about their own unethical gov’s ways.

And don’t forget the “Cooler and Warmer” campaign where our illustrious governor went out of state to find a new tourist slogan for RI…no one understood what it meant. This cost millions of dollars when our own RI School of Design is in her own back yard and RI is full of good minds who can come up with slogans far better than that one. Then, too, the video was of a skateboarder….in Iceland! More money down the drain.

Raimondo came to ILL-Annoy pedaling her garbage financial ideas
(& wasn’t she under investigation at some point?), which gave some of OUR DINOs the brilliant idea that teachers pensions were creating the financial “crisis” (we call it “broke on purpose”), thus passing a bill that diminished our pensions–which is clearly unconstitutional here.
The IL Supreme Court struck down the bill as such (after our unions & retired teachers assn. fought it out in court), but they’re at it yet again.
It’s the revenue, stupid. (ILL-Annoy is one of a few states to maintain a flat tax!)
Thanx, Gina. Isn’t it bad enough we have Duncan & Vallas back?
(Oh–& now Juan Rangel–former CEO of UNO charters {accusations of financial impropriety}–is back, starting some new organization.
What you said, below, speduktr.
I don’t know how else to say it. These people disgust me.
Just another good looking slime bag in a $10K suit.
I grew up living in between 2 of these areas and these properties had gone downhill and were in disrepair by the mid 1980’s. Fortunately, I never had to live in one of those units but some of my friends did and visiting was dismal at best. I’m surprised they are still standing. Maybe Jared should make an appearance to view his properties since he is only a 45 minute drive from his swanky home in the DC suburbs. Deplorable human beings….. every last one of them….no better than the rats and cockroaches that swarm the properties that they own.
Actually, the rats and cockroaches are a step ahead of Chump and his gang.
Rats and cockroaches kill and scavage to stay alive; Chump and his gand do it for ego, narcissism, and wealth. Personally, I’ll take the rats and cockroaches over anyone connected to Chump.
Par for the course. I’ve had rentals for 25+ years and I’ve seen slum landlords who literally should be in jail for the things they do to their tenants.
The question is: why is NY letting this scum bag operate this way?
Another disgusting Trump administrator!
Stiglitz comments on the budget just proposed by Agent Orange. How many more awful things can be said about this administration?

https://democracynow.org – The Trump administration unveiled its $4.1 trillion budget Tuesday. The plan includes massive cuts to social programs, while calling for historic increases in military spending. The budget proposes slashing $800 billion from Medicaid, nearly $200 billion from nutritional assistance programs, such as food stamps and Meals on Wheels, and more than $72 billion from disability benefits. The plan would also completely eliminate some student loan programs. It would ban undocumented immigrants from receiving support through some programs for families with children, including the child care tax credit. The budget also calls for an historic 10 percent increase in military spending and another $2.6 billion to further militarize the U.S.-Mexico border, including $1.6 billion to build Trump’s border wall. For more, we speak with Nobel Prize-winning economist Joseph Stiglitz.
