This article reviews the many legal and political challenges that still face the Keystone Pipeline.
He said it would create thousands of jobs, but they are temporary construction jobs. Once the pipeline is completed, it will be run by 50 people, only 35 with permanent jobs.
Environmental groups say it will cause irreparable damage.
“Trump said, “It’s going to be an incredible pipeline, greatest technology known to man or woman. And frankly, we’re very proud of it.” Despite Trump’s repeated insistence that Keystone and new pipelines would be built with American steel, the White House confirmed earlier this month that Keystone will not, since it was considered already under construction.”

Good! I stand with Standing Rock. Those white conquerors took from the Native Americans and the Native Hawaiians.
FB owner, Mr. Z., has sued the people of Hawai’i, because HE WANTS PRIVACY. Huh? Then he can go live on Easter Island.

The other and perhaps more compelling reason is this. The pipe need to complete the job is made in China and there are no steel makers in the US that can supply the wide-diameter pipe that is needed.

That is not quite true, half of the pipe is already made in America. Most of the pipe has already been procured through contract agreements .
I would bet that Trump knew this when he made those promises.

There are some things that Trump gets right . The question is does he really believe in what he is saying . Buy American provisions have long been a part of Public works projects which specify x percent of products should be made in America. I have had to ship back many an item because the documentation in the bid specified X,Y, or Z American product.
The record would indicate that he is not sincere . From his hiring of immigrant labor to his use of foreign steel in his own properties and projects . If you can not get Americans to do a job there is a tried and true method to correct that . RAISE THE WAGES. If you want to use US material on public works and public right of way projects, pay the higher price that enables middle class manufacturing jobs. I assure you that Trump is interested in neither solution.
Their is nothing wrong with being a populist and looking out for the Americas middle class

To clarify, I do not want to see that pipeline built . We could put a lot more Americans to work in building clean energy solutions. American/union made and installed solar panels sit on my roof and American made cars sit in my driveway . If you want others to support your high living standards. You have to be willing to pay a little more to
support the living standards of others .
Not only does Trump not have that philosophy most of his supporters even in the Midwest do not as they wave their flags and leave their red caps in their Nissan’s. While they go into vote for Republicans whose agenda is to crush unions and the working class.

Keystone should be a case study for how NOT to approach the climate issue.
We can’t regulate our way out of fossil fuel dependence. Not least of all because, as we are seeing now, a new president can completely overturn the rulings of the previous one.
Some people claim that Obama could not have done anything more than he did on the climate issue because of obstructionist Republicans, but that is actually not true. For various reasons having little to do with Republicans, a unique opportunity was missed to pass a cap and trade bill that would have addressed climate change from the demand side rather than the supply side.

Reducing demand (through things like a TAX on carbon and investments in renewable energy, vehicles with better fuel economy, electric vehicles, public transportation, etc) is really the only truly effective approach.
Blocking this or that pipeline with no reduction of demand just diverts the oil — and problem — from one pipeline to another.
Unfortunate, but true.

Obama only killed the pipeline when the economics behind it started to become questionable, in an election year . Had he done it years years before, it would have been dead and gone. He could have stopped it in 2010 or 12 . But he was too busy approving expanded drilling in the gulf just weeks before the BP disaster.

I know that millions of Democrats think Obama is the greatest president in history, but mostly what I see are missed opportunities.
Obama had the chance in 2009 with a majority in both houses and a 60 vote supermajority in the Senate to pass a climate bill with teeth despite Republican intransigence.
In fact, that’s how he got Obamacare through and as we just saw, overturning popular legislative bills is much more difficult than simply reversing regulatory decrees of the president.
Obama also “missed/squandered” a unique opportunity with the financial meltdown to put the country well down the road to fossil fuel independence. He could have started a massive public works project to totally transform the energy and manufacturing infrastructure, thereby making the country a leader in the renewable energy area.
A program to manufacture and install wind and solar in communities all over the country would have created millions of good jobs and reduced people’s electric bills at the same time that it addressed the climate issue, AND created an economy of the future I that helped reduce the income inequality that now exists within the US.
Had he done so — eg by creating good solar manufacturing and iinstallation jobs in dust belt states — he could have greatly reduced the likelihood of someone like Trump following in his footsteps.
But instead, Obama handed out trillions to the corrupt Wall Street Banks that crashed the world economy, money which basically went down a rat whole into the pockets of the already grotesquely wealthy.
Critically, by doing so, he further alienated Main Street America.
Heckuva job!

Pipelines leak. It happens over and over again without the media always making a big stink. We do not need our water supply or air polluted by another leak.
Trump says he is proud of it probably because the Koch brothers will be making money. (Remember, billionaires have better genes.)
Spend money on green energy. We are loosing our place in the world by not investing in alternative sources. China is working on this.
