   Live in Houston but have my ticket and hotel room confirmed. I am looking forward to seeing you again. Wish/hope that some of our Texas legislators would attend. BTW, Houston is also a ‘blue dot.’

   The US Department of Education is still focused full time on promoting vouchers.

   Here’s DeVos today:

   “One young lady, Denisha Merriweather, failed the third grade twice at her assigned traditional school in Florida. Denisha was on the path to becoming another statistic. She appeared destined to follow in the footsteps of her brother and mother, who both dropped out of high school.
   But Denisha’s godmother intervened, and, because of Florida’s Tax Credit Scholarship Program, Denisha was able to attend a school that better met her needs.
   Now Denisha is not only the first in her family to graduate from high school, but she also graduated from college and, this May, she will receive her master’s degree in social work.”

   It’s amazing to me that with 4200 employees no one at the US Department of Education can find a single public school in the United States that is worthy of praise.

   There are no good public schools in the US, no satisfied public school parents or successful public school graduates, in fact, there don’t seem to be any public school parents at all. The whole country consists of private and charter schools in this alternate reality they’ve invented.

   I get that very few of the folks in the Trump Administration and Congress attended public schools but how do you serve “the public” while deliberately excluding 90% of students and parents? Are public school students and parents barred from the US Department of Education?

   This is ludicrous. We have a federal government that is ideologically opposed to our children’s schools.

     These voucher stories are ALL anecdotal. I’ve worked in both charter and public schools. There is no comparison. Public schools are superior to any charter school–especially if you have a gifted or special needs student. The faculties in charter schools do not have the training and experience that public school faculties have. Often charter schools hire teachers with little to no experience, because they are cheaper.
