[This article was posted last night at zhuffington Post.]
As we all know, James Comey, the director of the FBI, shook up the Presidential election by informing Congress that the FBI is re-opening the investigation of Hillary Clinton after finding thousands of emails on the computer used by her close aide Huma Abedin and her lecherous husband Anthony Wiener. Director Comey said in his brief message that the emails have not been reviewed and may not be significant.
This announcement was contrary to the Justice Department’s longstanding policy of not commenting on ongoing investigations and not interfering in elections within the 60 days prior to the vote. Comey’s intervention may influence the outcome of the election, and he surely knows it. Let me repeat from his own statement to Congress that the emails have not been reviewed and may not be significant.
A Trump supporter in Iowa was arrested for voting twice. She was caught breaking the law. She said she was convinced that the election was “rigged,” as her candidate has said scores of times, so she thought she should vote twice.
Well, I won’t be voting twice, because it is against the law.
But I feel more strongly than ever that Donald Trump is a menace to our nation and to the world. He will do anything and say anything to spew hatred of Hillary Clinton and distrust for our democracy and its electoral process. He said a few days ago that the election should be canceled and he should be anointed President.
Let me count the reasons why I will do whatever I can to support Hillary Clinton.
She is far better qualified for the presidency than Donald Trump, who is completely unfit for the position.
She is better educated, more experienced, more thoughtful, wiser, and more knowledgeable than Trump.
She has a demonstrated commitment to the well-being of all Americans, while he is a bigot who has manipulated his followers’ fear of anyone who is not white and Christian.
Let me count the reasons that Trump should not be president.
He has stirred bigotry against blacks, Hispanics, Muslims, and women.
By his own admission, he is a sexual predator.
He will appoint Supreme Court justices committed to rolling back Roe v. Wade, civil rights, environmental protection, and any restrictions on campaign finance and on corporate greed.
He has given no evidence that he understands either foreign or domestic policy.
He has given permission to all the hate groups in the nation to crawl out from under their respective rocks and voice their venom against Jews, blacks, Muslims, Hispanics, and anyone they consider “other.” Anyone who expresses criticism of Trump on Twitter receives hundreds or thousands of responses that are anti-Semitic, anti-black, anti-everything but white nationalism.
Trump has unleashed a virulent form of white nationalism that has felt ashamed to show its face–or its hoods–for many years. If you want to know more about the Trump base, read this article that appeared in the New Yorker about a man who spends full time as a “troll for Trump.”
To understand his campaign and the white nationalists who are managing it, read this article “Inside the Bunker,” which I posted a few days ago.
Donald Trump is ignorant of the government, of democratic processes, of economics, and of any of the issues facing our nation.
Trump lacks the character or temperament to be President. He is a bully. He is vengeful. He is thin-skinned. He is a braggart. He is a con man. He is a liar. He has a documented history of defrauding the same people who are now voting for him, the working people to whom he offers lies and false promises of bringing back jobs that were lost to automation and outsourcing (which he participated in with his own products). And then there is Trump University, which ripped off working people, widows, and pensioners with false promises of riches. He should be selling snake oil, not running for the highest office in the land.
Listening to the radio this morning (CNN), I heard one of his biographers defend him (“The Truth about Trump”), saying that he was a consummate performer. He actually believes in nothing. No, there won’t be a wall, and Mexico won’t pay for it. He is running because he wants to win the biggest prize of all: the Presidency. He isn’t interesting in being President, just winning. Not to worry, Mike Pence will run the country. Pence is a homophobe who went on national television to defend discrimination against gays but was forced by corporations to back down when they threatened to leave Indiana. Mike Pence, darling of the far right, former talk-show host, is the Rush Limbaugh of Indiana.
James Comey acted inappropriately. He ignored the policies and norms of the Justice Department and the FBI. He announced a new investigation without any facts or evidence or charges; it will be weeks or months before the FBI decides whether there is anything of significance on the laptop shared by Anthony Wiener and Huma Abedin. If Comey helps elect Donald Trump, he should start a new investigation of the fraudulent voting inspired by Trump’s phony claims of vote rigging and the fraudulent business practices of President Trump. Will Trump separate himself from his hotel chain and his golf courses? Will he use his position as President to drum up money for his business empire? Will his children continue to profit from his businesses? He can’t put his business empire into a blind trust. Will he pause in affairs of state to open a new hotel, as he did a few days ago, or to launch a new line of clothing?
If this charlatan is elected, our democracy is at risk. Our economy is at risk. Our ideals, our values, and our aspirations for a more perfect union will be endangered by the takeover of the national government by the alt-right, by men like Steve Bannon of Breitbart, Roger Ailes of Fox News, and Rudy Guiliani, the skeletal ex-mayor of New York City who cheers on all of Trump’s wildest exaggerations.
Trump says he represents change, and that is true. But Trump’s change would mean chaos, incompetence at the highest levels of government, and a revival of the worst racism and bigotry of our lifetimes.
I can only vote for Hillary once, but I will vote for her with renewed enthusiasm.

We’ve already done early voting here in Florida. In addition to my husband’s vote, my big “victory” was convincing my cynical, unemployed tech graduate son, a huge Bernie supporter, to come to the dark side for HRC. He finally saw the importance of trying to keep Trump from taking this key state. I hope the additional Puerto Rican voters will help Florida go blue.

Right because the primaries were straight-up honest, pure as the new fall’n snow, no hint of rigging or corruption in sight.

I never heard Bernie say that the primaries were rigged. That Trump’s line. Nor did anyone but Trump claim that people voted twice or dead people voted. Sanders never did.

Oh for pity’s sake, Diane, Podesta’s own emails show how it was rigged. Not to mention coin tosses, half of Brooklyn not being able to vote, voters suddenly finding their registration invalid, vote totals changing (or not changing) erratically over the course of election night. The stories are legion, most of them quite well documented. As just one for instance, an election watcher in one precinct posted the vote totals (screen shots) as of 7:00 p.m. showing Clinton with about 11,000 votes and Sanders with about 22,000 votes. Two hours later, Clinton and Sanders were tied around 22,000 votes. You mean to tell me that in two hours hardly any votes came in for Sanders, while 11,000 came in for Clinton? There were examples like this after nearly every primary. There were even lawsuits in several states (some initiated by the Sanders campaign, so your “Sanders never did” line is false).

Why is Sanders campaigning for HRC?
Why did he never say that the vote was rigged?
New York State was not even close between them.

The primaries were rigged in NJ? News to me, I had no trouble voting for Bernie and HRC won by a sizable margin over Bernie. The election process was fair and square in NJ. HRC has higher recognition than Bernie who is not as well known to the public.

If Trump wins, he will fill Scalia’s seat on the Court, and possibly Ginsburg’s and one other. We will have a far-right Court for a generation. Forget about legal abortion and gay rights. Forget about civil rights enforcement. Forget about regulating the environment. Trump has promised to unleash clean coal (?) and let industry frack wherever it wishes.

Where is the Civil Rights enforcement today? Young black males are being shot and killed all over the country. Several Northern states lead the segregation list. Standardized tests have been anointed to ensure the preservation of the deeply entrenched caste system. The suggestion that Obama has advanced the Civil Rights Agenda is pure fantasy.

Abigail, are you assuming that things can’t get worse under a Trump administration and a Trump Court? I have lived a lot longer than you. We assume the Court will protect rights but a Trump Court is not likely to. Will you be okay when abortion is illegal again? When blacks are excluded from juries? When literacy tests and poll taxes are used to restrict voting rights? When gay marriage is illegal again and it is okay to discriminate against gays if your religion says so?

It is no secrete that I have been a critic of Clinton all along. I despise the Clinton’s on policy not on character. On character they represent more of the same that we have come to associate with a broken system in Washington and the Nation.
Worse on character they represent the swamp hole that the Democratic party under their leadership has fallen into, where the interests of the working class are subjugated to the interests of their corporate donors and Billionaire friends.
However make no mistake the Democrats have come late to this game and are novices as compared to the Republican party ,who make no pretense as to who they represent . Whose policy has and will devastate working class voters . Who have used racial dog whistles for years to somehow hypnotize working class voters to support policy that will devastate them . My problem with the Clinton’s / Obama was that if I had wanted a Republican I could have voted for them.
So when the choice was the Socialist Jew from NY ( I can say that I identify with Bernie on both those descriptions) or the Clinton’s it was hands down Bernie . When the choice was Hillary or the fascist ,demagogue, narcissist, misogynist, billionaire. Hillary begrudgingly got my vote .
In the 90’s my head spun with each policy that Clinton initiated yet I voted for him twice . When the Republicans went after him for an inappropriate sexual affair, to my dismay , I had to rally to his defense . It was one of the few things he did, that did no harm to the tradition of FDR that the party had represented. It was none of my (four letter word) business. So the Republicans made me an avid Clinton supporter.
Here we go again, when James Comey spoke in July. I was livid. After the cake was baked and Clinton was the inevitable candidate of the Democratic party . He refuses to indict her, yet he tries her in the court of public opinion. That was beyond the pale. My gut reaction, he was trying to fix the election after the primaries. I was not at all surprised when several progressive writers came to the same conclusion . What he did on Friday doubled down on my disgust. For all we or he knows those emails are an order for pizza or the shopping list for a cocktail party. This is beyond outrage and it is hard to see that this was not politically motivated especially en-light of his earlier actions. Hopefully Hillary wins, Obama appointed him, what a fool appoints a partisan Republican to a high office, they would never do the same . Comey was a Republican appointee to one the furthest right wing justice departments we have ever seen. One that went looking for voter fraud for 5 years to suppress the minority vote in order to shift future elections and found a few dozen ex convicts ineligible to vote.
It is up to Obama to correct this after the election. Comey should be fired and a special prosecutor appointed to investigate Comey’s actions. This is despicable, most despicable that again it is Republican actions that have made me an avid supporter of Hillary . No wonder she had a private server. You or I under a 30 year assault would do the same.

I don’t know if Comey’s big discovery is politically motivated, or not. However, it helps to cast another cloud of doubt over HRC. It is a big concern that outside agents, perhaps Russian, are trying to influence our election. When did Wiki leaks become the ‘National Enquirer?’

What did Comey discover? No one has read the emails. No one knows if they are relevant or significant.

Nothing has come out that was criminal. Comey said so in July.
Now he has a new computer which has 650,000 emails and as he said, there may be nothing significant in them.
This is a massive charade.
Meanwhile Trunp won’t release his taxes and he openly encourages bigotry, hatred and violence.

Yesterday, one of Trump’s supporters at a rally was chanting, “Jew, S.A.”
Is this how fascism begins, building on legitimate grievances and then letting out the dogs of hatred to consume the movement?

It is also popular for Trump supporters to raise a beheaded Clinton effigy on a “pike”. Violence in support of Trump is the new normal.
Trump’s monotonal, stream-of-consciousness representative Conway said the man’s anti-Semitic chant was “deplorable”, but apparently the “Hillary for Prison” t-shirt didn’t bother her. And then, of course, she deflected to playing the victim of the media.

Ross Dothan: “Since this is the final week for Hillary skeptics to agonize over whether to cast a vote for Donald Trump, it seems appropriate to outline why the risks of Trump are so distinctive as to throw the perils of a Clinton presidency into relative eclipse.
“This is a challenging thing to explain because Trump is, among recent American politicians, sui generis. The mistakes and blunders that an establishment liberal like Clinton is likely to make can be envisioned by looking at peers like Angela Merkel, at recent occupants of the White House, at Hillary’s own record. But there are no obvious analogues for a President Trump; all the comparables, from Arnold Schwarzenegger to Silvio Berlusconi, only reflect part of what we would get with the Republican nominee as a superpower’s president.
“So considering the dangers of Trump requires a grounded speculation, which is what I’ll attempt here. These are not my worst-case scenarios: They do not involve Trump making baldly authoritarian moves or accidentally touching off nuclear war. Rather, they’re three baseline dangers for a Trump administration, three perils that we would very likely face.” read more at http://www.nytimes.com/2016/10/30/opinion/sunday/the-dangers-of-donald-trump.html?emc=edit_th_20161030&nl=todaysheadlines&nlid=50637717&_r=0
