• The protests are driven both by concerns about climate change (not to mention potential pollution) and its disparate impact on native peoples, and by objections that the pipeline’s construction violated the US government’s obligation to deal with the Standing Rock Sioux as a sovereign government. • On the merits, the Standing Rock Sioux have a strong case that the federal government didn’t consult them as equals in approving the pipeline. But as the case grinds through the courts, the archaeological sites the tribe is trying to protect — directly in the pipeline’s path — might already be in the midst of destruction. It figures. The big banks think they will make millions. The tribal people who have suffered so much for so long again get the short end of the stick.
Money, people. Guess which is the more important to these big bankers
Guess they don’t care when people are set upon by dogs, pepper spray etc to defend their right to exist.
Native Americans are fighting the fight to save us ALL The planet, our posterity, ALL. For this they get smacked down over and over and over and over.again.
In Indiana the Enbridge pipeline goes so close to Lake Michigan that when it breaks as it did in Kalamazoo, Michigan the potable water for MILLIONS of people well be so polluted as to be unusable But it made made monetary profits for the super rich and that group of people who run our government. [Enbridge is one of the companies involved in this pipeline, Standing Rock area.]
Vote for Trump. He will finish the job..

Ah so, Gordon….it is endless Manifest Destiny and American Exceptionalism running wild….Native American grave yards be damned. Same things are happening to native populations with clear cutting, coal mining dumping pollution into rivers used for millenia to catch fish for feeding their populations.

All the i’s were dotted. All the t’s crossed. All agencies have looked at this project from every possible direction. Army Corp of engineering has looked at all possible options.
A federal judge has spoken. And now we have to start all over. When is enough enough? Another federal judge threw out an Iowa request: should have filed sooner, were told to file sooner – too late now.

And this just in from MoveON…..
“Ellen,
I have great news!
Today, the federal government announced a halt on construction of a critical stretch of the Dakota Access Pipeline near the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe Reservation until additional environmental assessments on the project are complete.
This is a big deal!
The fight to stop the Dakota Access Pipeline is far from over, but we should celebrate this incredibly significant victory.
The federal government didn’t take these actions on their own. They were responding to unrelenting pressure from the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe and other Native American leaders from across the country.
In fact, the gathering at the Sacred Stones Camp is the largest gathering of Native Americans in more than 100 years. What happened there over the last several days inspired a nation — a nation that too often forgets and neglects the original inhabitants of this land.
That’s why I started the petition demanding an investigation into the security guards who attacked the land protesters at the camp. While Sioux Tribe and other activists took action to stop the Dakota Access Pipeline, I wanted to ensure that the American public had their back. I wanted to make sure that while the tribe and other Native leaders were taking a stand and risking so much for the land, we were taking a stand for them.
And I have more good news on that as well.
The North Dakota media is reporting that the North Dakota Private Investigation and Security Board will investigate the use of dogs last week by private security guards at the Dakota Access Pipeline construction site.
The article announcing the investigation specifically cites our petition as a reason why the security guards will be investigated.
Without you signing this petition, I believe these “security guards” would have gotten away with their heinous actions.
Today proves that the more people who speak out, the bigger the impact we can have.
We still have a long fight ahead, and we’re not going anywhere. I’ll send you updates about how you can stay involved, but in the meantime be sure to follow these groups on Facebook for more information about how you can support their work.
•Standing Rock Sioux Tribe
•Sacred Stone Camp
•Red Warrior Camp
Thanks again for your support!
Best,
Matt
P.S. Please be part of the national day of action against the Dakota Access Pipeline on Tuesday, September 13! Click here to find an event near you, or sign up to host an action in solidarity with the indigenous communities and local farmers and landowners fighting on the front lines.”
Hard to slow the oligarchs down when there are huge profits involved.

Sorry guys…could not get these links to painful articles to post, so tried three times….then I too went to dinner with friends…and now, alas, redundant posts. Diane/Jonathan…please help.
Meanwhile the situation is beginning to resemble Tianamen Square with members of the tribe putting their bodies, themselves, in the line of the bulldozers. Such an outrage.
Taught a nine week course a few years ago on just this kind disrespect and advantage-taking by our government and our corporations of the American Indian tribes. First put them on reservations, then steal the reservations from them to plant nuclear waste, or for their legal oil rights.
Read Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee to learn more about how Indians are treated by our ‘free and equal’ society. A travesty.
