This says it all.
Patricia Levesque of the Foundation for Educational Excellence (created by Jeb Bush to promote charters, vouchers, the Common Core, entrepreneurship, and digital learning) issued the following statement:
Statement by Patricia Levesque on U.S. Secretary John King
Tallahassee, Fla. – Today, Patricia Levesque, CEO of the Foundation for Excellence in Education (ExcelinEd), released the following statement congratulating Secretary John King on being confirmed as the U.S. Secretary of Education.
“Throughout his career – from teaching to leading the New York State Education Department – Secretary John King has shown a tireless commitment to improving student learning through rigorous accountability and high quality educational options. Our nation’s students are fortunate to have him at the helm of the U.S. Department of Education at this crucial time. ExcelinEd looks forward to working with Secretary King and our many state partners to ensure implementation of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) maintains a commitment to accountability for the success of all students while also creating opportunities for state innovation.”

I count only 1 Democrat who voted against his approval.
I also notice that Senators Rubio, Cruz and Sanders did not vote.

Your right Jeff…it appears that no one can be counted on to do the right thing for education anymore. Seems us common folks are the only ones left that can see through the Bologna in education these days.

“Your” right Willis. No one can see through the city of Bologna to see how great public education is at preparing people for their lives.

I would like to know how manyof the million + readers here sent off an email or phone call to their senators demanding they vote against this nomination. How many schools got together to sign 2 petitions?
I doubt many teachers even bothered despite Diane’s plea.
Let’s face it, if they did it would have been a national story!!!
Every time teachers across this country have a chance to make a difference, nothing happens. And this was an easy request that wouldn’t impact a teacher’s job security.

Levesque had to make a statement so she could pretend the organization is still relevant.

“through rigorous accountability and high quality educational options. ”
I’ll translate that from political operative into English for you- standardized testing and charters.
Nothing changes- coming up on 16 years of testing and charters thru two consecutive administrations.
How crazy is it that Jeb Bush could not get elected in this country – he was beaten soundly even within the tiny group of GOP primary voters- yet the nation’s public schools are still lock-step following his “vision” for public schools. Why bother to run at all? His influence in or out of office is the same.

I hate to say it but bet the plan is to keep him on if Clinton is elected. It looks like a carefully managed succession plan to me, akin to what’s done with private sector CEO’s.

Just what I was going to say.

don’t think they will keep him – you almost never give up an appointment to those who support your election

Most troubling! It is not going to get better if Clinton or Kasich get in. I don’t know about Trump or Cruz’s positions on Education, common core and accountability.

Trump said he will be supporting charters since talking to Ben Carson. Kasich’s record on charters is evident.
