A report in the Daily Beast says that the City of Chicago lawyers advised Rahm Emanuel to pay off the family, enter into a confidentiality agreement, and keep the video of the killing of Laquan McDonald out of the public eye. This agreement was reached on the eve of the election last spring. Would Rahm have been re-elected if this video had surfaced?
The Chicago way.
When will the recall process begin?
There is no recall provision in Chicago.
It worries me, because the weaker he gets the more he has to reach out to his (remaining) backers and political supporters and his backers and political supporters want him to do MORE to privatize and sell off that city, not less.
In my opinion, he’s worse weak than when he was riding high. Rauner and the rest of the money people who backed him will have more leverage to make demands on a weak mayor than a strong one. They’re all he’s got left.
According to the New Yorker article, Rauner has abandoned Rahm.
It worries me,too. A wounded animal is more dangerous. What does he have to lose?
The New Yorker has a doozy, too. A comprehensive look at his absolute failures, some having to do with education and many having weakened the Democratic Party overall.

Rahm is poison get rid of him Chicago and bring back the ole windy city from this obama poison maker. This guy is a real trip on the mind people. He is wicked and just take a look at him. As Donald Trump says look at that face and it says it all.

Hey, ELA folks, a little help, please!
“reëlected” Why the umlaut over the second “e”? Any further discussion of the usage would be appreciated! TIA, Duane
I think that means ‘elected in Germany” …which is pretty much the only place he has a chance now.
Sorry poet, East Germany no longer exists.
The New Yorker uses conventions not seen in most publications, such as the umlaut above the second vowel in reelected and cooperation. I don’t know why…it has always seemed kind of pretentious to me.
I could see it used as a means of showing a different pronunciation that the “normal” two vowel dipthong, in other words breaking up the dipthong to form two syllables. If so, I like that usage. I believe that one can do the same by putting a hyphen between the vowels: co-operation or re-election.
I am embarrassed to admit that I never noticed in fifty years the use of the umlaut in The New Yorker! What else have I missed?!
