Matt Kramer said all the right things and conceded the top spot graciously, so I’m sure he will “land” somewhere in short order. It sounds like Grier had no choice but to “retire” or get removed. Somehow I can’t work up any feeling of sympathy for either one.
Education is a zero sum game. If you’re in education and making 400K, you’re taking away music, art, or P.E. from a bunch of kids. You ain’t got no alibi.
TFA recruitment has dropped due to the necessary scrutiny. He doesn’t have to work, since he comes from a wealthy family; therefore, he will be spending time at home with his family. I am sure that he will land a gig with another entity seeking to privatize public education.
“In an email, the company’s vice president for communications, Takirra Winfield, insisted that the transition is about what will allow TFA to best pursue its strategic plan for the future, and was unrelated to recruitment challenges or negative press.”
I wonder if this is really true, or if Matt is seeing the writing on the wall?
People in Minneapolis are starting to understand the Kramer family’s network: CEO of TFA places TFA into Mpls schools and charters, brother Eli operates a charter chain, and father runs/ran the newspapers that publish “failing public schools” propaganda. Kramer family, being the Kramer family, has access to: Mayor, Minneapolis Foundation, Itasca Project…
No wonder he is taking time off to do some soul searching. I hope he really does.
Met Terry Grier two years ago and was not impressed. I was there with my doctoral cohort. His staff jumped to their feet as he entered the room like he was POTUS, and his ego busted out the windows and bled on the sidewalk below. His bluster was the same as most high-level administrators who blame all of education’s woes on teachers. Houston at the time was suffering a teacher shortage (probably still is) as well as shortages in other areas. It was not surprising he requested we all put in applications before we leave because he could use “the help.” No one did.
My take away on the TFA is this: “…will allow TFA to best pursue its strategic plan for the future…”
Its strategic plan is lobbying Washington to eliminate all public schools. Period.
Wendy. She had a great idea…..how to fill her bank account with public tax dollars and “philanthropic” (with an eye on returns on investments) donations/tax deductions.
There is a special place in hell for Wendy. I don’t believe her intentions were ever “for the good of the children” as much as they were for her own personal good, her husband’s eventual personal good via KIPP, and to become a darling to the government who has bestowed plenty of my hard earned tax dollars on her underserving soul.

Grier: When a comment from a concerned citizen is, “It will take twenty years to undo what he has done,” it’s time to go before charges are brought.

So true. So privileged. Makes hefty coin destabilizing our schools, then has the means to take time off to spend with family.

It is a good thing that this Broad-Arnold Foundation friend is on his way out.
But who will be the next batter up?
