The respected Sienna College poll finds that nearly 3/4 of the public disapproves of Governor Andrew Cuomo’s education policies.
Cuomo rails against public schools and their teachers. He has no constitutional authority for education but has used the budget process to insert high-stakes tests for teachers. He is a champion for privately managed charter schools. He tried to get vouchers for religious schools, but while failing to do so, won $250 million for them.
The public doesn’t like his anti-public school policies.
Add this to the remarkable failure of “START UP NY”,
REMEMBER CUOMO’S OTHER BIG PLAN?
I see the same preposterous ads every night. Do you?
A $53 million* national ad campaign boasted the tagline: “Move here, expand here, or start a new business here, and pay no taxes for ten years.” The program, which was run by BBDO USA, a major national advertising firm, started out with a $50 million price tag but then was ratcheted up four times, with a final cost of more than $200 million, which includes the TV advertising.
No business, corporate, sales, property, state or local taxes and no franchise fees. And no income tax for the company or its employees. Ten full years of savings.
The lowest tax rate for the middle class in 58 years.
Start-UP NY created a total of just 76 new jobs.
Clearly, gimmicky programs with overhyped taglines are not the true drivers of growth. Both labor unions and conservative groups are opposed to Start-Up NY New York; the executive director of the progressive Working Families Party said of the program, “That’s not economic development; that’s lunacy.” New York leaders would do far better to consider a tax-reform approach that truly creates jobs and entices businesses – namely, reducing the state income tax. http://www.forbes.com/…/with-only-76-jobs-created-cuomos-s…/
In addition, N.Y. ranks 46th for fiscal health.
1. New York ranks 43rd in terms of cash solvency.
2. New York ranks 45th in terms of budget solvency.
3. New York ranks 45th in terms of long-run solvency.
4. New York ranks 39th in terms of service-level solvency.
5. New York ranks 21st in terms of trust fund solvency.

This is the same Genius who has forced CCSS, VAM, and more Standardized testing on the state’s Education system while luring more business in as charter schools.

Cuomo rails against the public period.
They should stop polling and hide him in a hunting cabin in the Adirondacks.
I think he’d probably start harassing the bears up there, telling them their cubs had to take tests and could not opt out.
And, well, momma bears have a much lower tolerance level for that than the NY public.
…and in other surprising news, water is wet.

“I covered post-Soviet Russia in the 1990s and watched as Kremlin-friendly businessmen became billionaires by carving up state assets in the process known as privatization. Here money is flowing in the opposite direction: Self-made tech, real estate and hedge fund tycoons are privatizing the public sector by supplementing, and in some cases supplanting, school boards, museum trustees, campaign donors and even government grants for scientific research.
The intent here isn’t to chronicle the lifestyles of the rich and famous – that always entertaining topic is already widely covered. Billionaires create their own ecospheres for good as well as ill, but they aren’t really answerable to anyone except themselves.”

I despise the anti public school movement. Where is it proven that children perform better in charter schools as oppose to public school? Parents should be given a choice and not dictated by Cuomo of where to send their children. I’ve never met Governor Cuomo but so many of his decisions personally affected me. My husband worked for a state prison that Cuomo decided to shut down then to make matters worse he relocated him to a prison upstate that was 3 hours away (workers had to accept transfer or look for another job). I’m trying to get my teaching license but was hit with the edTPA roadblock. I’m trying really hard to get ahead in life but Governor Cuomo keeps throwing obstacles in my way. As much as I love New York it is becoming more impossible each day to stay here. – Melissa
Who cares if the public disapproves of his education policy?
Really. Do we think that his education policy was put in place for the public?
Of course not. It was put in place for the privatizers.
He couldn’t care less about the public’s opinion about his Ed agenda. It’s not a factor. Has he faced headwind on it via organized groups, namely parents?…sure. Has it changed his thinking or agenda? Nope. And it won’t, in spite of the fact that the IDIOTS in NYSUT leadership are claiming that “we” won victories against his agenda. (We didnt. We were routed.)
Cuomo is old news. He’s boring at this point. He doesn’t even give me the acid in my gut venomous loathing he once did. Why? Well he’s clear as day as to what his agenda is, doesn’t hide it, and WINS most of the time. The bully on the playground is not interesting. He is a known. He is an affront to civil society, but he is a known, and not interesting.
Much more angering to me at this point, and much more worthy of my venomous loathing, is Randi Weingarten, NYSUT leadership, and the other accomodation artists that are making the destruction of my career sooo much easier for the boring Cuomo’s of the world. It’s also a pack of rats that I can maybe, just maybe, have a hand in throwing out. It’s always best to focus on cleaning ones own house first. The Cuomo’s of the world will always be there. The union leaders who sell out their membership and aren’t bright enough to be embarrassed by it….well that’s a special disease that can actually be cured.
Wisconsin can’t fund public schools, but they can build a stadium for a millionaire!
“The Wisconsin state Senate has approved a public financing deal for a new Milwaukee Bucks arena.
Republicans crafted a bill that would devote $250 million in public dollars to the project. GOP leaders controls the Senate 19-14 but didn’t have enough support to get to 17 votes, forcing them to ask minority Democrats to join them.
The parties brokered a deal Wednesday afternoon that includes a $2 ticket surcharge and eliminates provisions requiring the state to offset a $4 million annual contribution to the stadium by collecting Milwaukee County’s past due debt.”
The corruption and capture has reached the level where it’s sickening. It’s just gross.
