My friend Larry Lee in Alabama told me to check out Mr. Brandon’s blog. Mr. Brandon drives a school bus, and he reports on his conversations with the children. It is one of those “kids say the darndest things,” but sometimes it goes a little deeper. Mr. Brandon is not your ordinary bus driver, I’ll put it that way.
What a nice interlude with every day life.
Not to disparage teachers and what they do in ANY way but I observed a cook in one of our elementary schools really do important work with children. When they came in from the cold after safety patrol they had hot chocolate waiting for them and I believe that she was the mother that some of those kids did not have. A BEAUTIFUL human being who affected those children in a positive way that even some of our teachers.
For me, THAT is what education is all about, not just the 3 Rs.
In nine years of riding school buses, I remember only surly silence from the driver’s seat. I’m happy for Mr Brandon’s riders, and hope there are many more like him.
He understands a good life and the billionaires do not.

Mrs. Ravitch they have decided to make my blog into a book. I was wondering if I could possibly use your quote on the back of the book if they need it? Thanks for the consideration.
