Governor Bobby Jindal says he will not ask for John White’s resignation. They disagree. Jindal says the state is dropping Common Core and pulling out of the PARCC test. White says the governor is wrong. White says the state is staying in Common Core and PARCC.
The governor has canceled funding for PARCC and called for an audit of the state department of education.
Stay tuned.

Why did Jindal suddenly decide to drop Common Core? I had thought that he was very corporate reform friendly. Anyone know?

It is a politically toxic brand now.

I don’t know what the end game is here, but this seems like political kabuki theater to me.

My guess is that Jindal is realizing that his position on education has destroyed his chances for the presidency and is now trying to backpedal. Of course, it is too late. This man’s political career is over.

Perhaps, but he’s got the attention of a lot of people from other states now. Also, even if he were to bow out of the political arena, we’ve still got to watch Christie, Cuomo, Malloy, Walker and last but not least, Jeb.

John White is another Eli Broad superintendent school graduate and TFA non teacher. I would think of course he would go along with common core as it’s part of the agenda of the reformers he kowtows to. Jindal on the other hand I believe is more republican in his dislike of the common core. So indeed it’s a political move for both of them. I doubt seriously if either one knows much about the core of the common core.

If he is Broad then he knows exactly what it is and he will never change his stance on it. He will have to eventually be fired.

I think contracts are already in place and billions must have been turned over to Pearson and the rest of the vipers…and I have to wonder if White is getting or already gotten his “cut” which wouldn’t surprise me given how Pearson spends money of these guys giving them trips and other goodies just to get these deals.

John White will have the state BESE board to contend with. Eleven members; six to remove him. Becoming more likely by the day.

Perhaps we will soon hear a rheepeat of an ominous vow by Paul Vallas:
“I go in, fix the system, I move on to something else.”

Then the “dance of the lemons” starts all over again…
Thank you for this info and all your efforts on behalf of a “better education for all.”

And he will be hired immediately by some other crazed governor or mayor.

That usually means that a sacking is imminent.

Jindal has what he needs on White. It’s only a matter of days before White “resigns.”

This charade is a win-win for both of them. Jindal can pretend he does not want CCSS and PARCC because he just realized it’s federally initiated and White can pretend he is standing up for children. Then White goes on his merry way with an inflated resume that any deformer would love. Win-win for Louisiana- good riddance to both of them.
Bad news is there is always some crook waiting in the wings to jump in.

Maybe this is all political theater, not necessarily meaning what they say, but trying to warm up to constituencies. Jindal, at least.

Don’t worry. Paul Pastorek is coming to the rescue. He is moving back to NOLA to open an education consulting firm that will tell us how to fix everything he broke the last time he was in our state. I am sure there is already a contract waiting for him. The more things change, the more they they stay the same. They will milk every penny until the next new money making scheme comes along.

I think many folks hadn’t thought CCSS through and only now people are waking up to the realities of the origin of their creation and dissemination. States around the country are doing a 180 on this. I think that is a good thing.
