If the answer is yes, please come to one or both of the two
sessions where I am speaking on April 3. I will give the
John Dewey Society lecture at the
Convention Center, 100 Level, Room 114, from 4-7 pm. (Lots of time
for discussion). My topic: “Does Evidence
Matter?” Fair warning: The room holds only 600
people. Before the Dewey lecture, I will join Philadelphia parent
activist Helen Gym and Carl Grant of the University of Wisconsin
(chair) in a special Presidential session from 2:15 to 3:45,
on the same level in Room 121B The
title of the session is: Rising to the
Challenges of Quality and Equality:
The Promise of a Public
Pedagogy If you join me at the early session,
you will have to race with me to the lecture, and the room may be
full.

We’re going to have a great session together – definitely not to be missed!
Helen Gym: the leaders of the “new civil rights movement of our time” and their edubully enforcers and educrat enablers have both you and Diane pegged as “shrill” and “strident”—wear their contempt as badges of honor. A dynamic duo indeed!
Thank you for all your efforts on behalf of so many. And a little perspective when they attempt to wear you down with their spitballs of smugness:
“First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.” [Mahatma Gandhi]
😎
P.S. The latest unconfirmed rumor has it that, with a little help from a lot of friends, that Gandhi fella beat the first empire on which the sun never set. Heard anything about that?
The first “empire” upon which the sun never set was the Spanish empire of “El Siglo Dorado” not the English who did their best to harass and attempt to destroy the Spanish empire.
Señor Swacker: my bad.
I stand corrected.
Seems I’ve been spending too much time doing “closet reading” [that’s where I do my ‘close reading’] and not enough time doing ‘real reading.’
Will Lord Coleman ever pardon me?
Waiting for forgiveness…
😎
Wondering if Diane has had any success in securing a meeting with Bill Greene, new SRC chair, to discuss her book and his policies? I presented him a copy of the book and requested he read it and reflect on his current philosophies in light of the information in that book. I also requested he provide the research and evidence for his stated beliefs about educational “reform” however he doesn’t seem to see fit to answer my queries.
I tweeted to Bill Greene that I would be happy to meet him on April 3 (that was a month ago). He said he was unavailable. I asked if he was available to meet on the evening of April 2, but I did not get a reply. I will be in Philadelphia to speak at AERA from 2-7 on April 3 and could meet him before or after. But no reply.
Diane,
Are these events open to the public, or must one be a member of AERA to attend?
After seeing your above response, I called SRC and left message and emailed as well. I actually got a response from the Interim Chief of Staff, Nicky Charles, who I just spoke with on the phone. She said that Bill Green’s office has not ignored your offer to meet. She said that she offered a date in May since Bill wasn’t available on the April date. She further said she is very open to trying to schedule a meeting between you and Bill. I was hoping, hoping, hoping that something would be able to happen. He is on a destructive path to continue the devasting policies that are already widespread in Philadelphia. She gave me her direct line and said she believed you had access to her information for contact. Thank you so much for all you do.
I sincerely hope that Bill Greene will not follow Michelle Rhee and David Coleman on the Road to RheeFlee.
If he sincerely believes in the power of his ideas he should not be afraid to speak his mind outside of controlled eduproduct launchings and press briefings and the like.
With all due respect, I am not holding my breath.
😎
No, I too am not holding my breath. This was important enough for him to MAKE time when Diane could be in Philadelphia. It was the RheeWayOut.
And Philly “reform” moves on. The school district of Phila has filed in the PA supreme court a request for Declaratory Judgement to pave the way to impose work rules rather than collectively bargain for a fair contract. We are sinking deeper in the mud.
I’m a member of AERA, but I wasn’t planning to go this year since I had gone to other conferences to present. But now that I know you’re going to be there, I’m tempted to go at the last minute. Makes me feel kind of like a Greteful Dead fan…
