The Providence Student Union said it first: it is wrong to use a standardized test for graduation.
They fought the state superintendent Deborah Gist all year.
Then the Providence superintendent said she agreed withthe students. The tests will hurt the most disadvantaged students, who will never get a diploma.
Now the battle rages because the state board if education won’t back down. They don’t care if those students never graduate. It is Other People’s Children.

Maybe the reason they will never get a diploma is because they didn’t learn the material…

Did anybody ever point out the unintended humor in the acronym NECAP (knee-cap), a verb meant to smash somebody’s knee caps?

I teach in RI, and believe me, we all know that one. :^)

Diane, you’ve been to RI and you’re the only person I’ve seen to call it like it truly is on Deborah Gist. The governmental powers, both appointed and elected, seem to think her punitive policies are a panacea.
I dont know anyone who went into education to punish kids, but the RI government seems to think that is the best agenda.

I think people are starting to wake up to who Gist really is and what her agenda really is. She is starting to lose even some of the people who were shouting “Gist for governor!” when she gave her tacit approval to the firing of teachers at Central Falls High.
