Congratulations!
…and well deserved! congratulations, Di!
Congratulations!! Thanks from a Long Island parent who opted her children out of last April’s state exams due to you helping educate me about what is “really” going on in all of our schools. I cannot thank you enough and thought “Reign of Error” was terrific!!!! Have A Happy Holiday and A Very Healthy New Year!!! We need you! Go Green Lacers!!
Apple, as in the iPad people????!!!!! CONGRATS!
Who knew? Go figure.
My thought exactly. Bizarro world, but congrats anyway, Diane.
Agreed, it is pleasantly surprising to find out that Diane has not been blackballed by Apple for writing about the LAUSD iPad boondoggle.
It only seems bizarre if you believe the narrative that says major corporations in the United States are plotting to destroy public education for their own financial gain.
If you don’t believe that narrative, Dr. Ravitch’s book is a natural choice as one of the best books of the year.
Or, if you believe that Apple will continue making money, whether that narrative is true or not…
Congratulations!!! This is big and you earned and serve it.

I’m not surprised. The information in the book is extremely valuable and should be taken seriously by everyone in education.
Yeah…you wrote a fabulous book. TY.
Bizarre and wonderful. I guess their editorial staff is still kept separate from their marketing department. Congratulations and thank you for a book that has changed my life and those of my children.
It’s best to buy the actual hard copy of the book instead of an “eBook.” After all, you OWN the hard copy and not rent it to enrich some CEO or Jeff Bezos.

Congrats Diane!! Thanks for educating us on what is going on in education!
I am hoping you will read this and maybe post-and Definitely listen to the show. We have what is turning into a huge, live, debate on-air tonight in Denver.
This evening, Thursday, December 19, on Denver AM 560 KLZ, from 5-7 p.m.(MST), the topic will be Common Core. Dr. Terrence Moore will be debating with Laura Boggs, former school board member, followed by Mr. Anthony Cody. Dr. Sandra Stotsky then Michael Brickman/Fordham Inst. will be joining debate at 6pm (MST).
We are asking people to pose questions via Facebook, https://www.facebook.com/GrassrootsRadioColorado
This show is also available by listening on line at http://www.560thesource.com just click “Listen Live.”
thanks from Colorado!
Apple??? Wow! Congratulations!
I think it makes perfect sense because they want to sell iBooks. When we share the link we broadcast their iBook ad. Why would they not? We’re an army of potential customers, and their iBook marketing department might not have gotten the memo about fleecing the schools.
So, congratulations on building a social media phenomenon too juicy to ignore, everybody.
well deserved!
Diane,
Can you help to set the record straight on Dr. Stotsky? In tonight’s debate, Mr. Brickman took a cowardly shot at Dr. Sandra Stotsky, as he was going off air.
Michael Brickman eluded that Dr. Stotsky was incorrect regarding her statement that Common Core requires teachers to spend at least 50% of their time teaching informational texts. Actually, Mr. Brickman that number is larger. Students are required to read 50% informational texts when they are in lower grades but by the time students are in 12th grade, they must devote 70% of their time to informational texts. This comes straight from the Common Core website. Please read for yourself.

And please note that Brickman’s employer (Fordham Inst.) took nearly $1million from Bill Gates to review the Common Core standards…Not exactly an unbiased review.

MR. BRICKMAN ALSO SAID TEACHERS LOVE COMMON CORE. really? I wish teachers would let Mr.Brickman know how they really feel by sending him a few thousand tweets. @BrickM
Thank you Dr. Stotsky and Diane and all the other heroes out there for promoting the truth about Common Core. We need you and we are grateful for you.
Ironically, I’m reading this on my iPad.
If librarians helped choose they book, they would only select the best, and they don’t believe in censoring (Intellectual Freedom rules!)
Way to go, Diane!
And let’s not overlook the fact that Reign of Error is The Nation’s 2013 Most Valuable Book of the Year:
MOST VALUABLE BOOK: Diane Ravitch’s Reign of Error
Yes, she really did serve as an assistant education secretary for George H.W. Bush, and yes, she once supported George W. Bush’s “No Child Left Behind.” But Ravitch refuses to cling to failed strategies, as she explains in her groundbreaking new book, subtitled The Hoax of the Privatization Movement and the Danger to America’s Public Schools. Driven by experience and data, she demolishes the argument that rigid requirements and punishments will make schools better. Indeed, she argues, these schemes too frequently serve the interests of misguided foundations, ideologically driven billionaires and Wall Street speculators more interested in privatizing public education—with some of them profiting in the process—than in helping children, parents and communities. Chicago Teachers Union president Karen Lewis says, “Diane is a fierce warrior against the so-called reformers whose ideology exacerbates the problems of poverty and inequity.”
Diane has been given, through her experiences, a unique opportunity to cut through the crap and set the record straight. The fact that she is willing to put herself out there and keep up the good fight – in spite of health issues – is a tribute to her character. Her finesse and style make her even more deserving of this and any of the other honors she so richly deserves.
