Joel Klein lambasted the Democratic candidates in the race to succeed Mayor Bloomberg for their criticism of his policies.
Klein defended the policy of giving free public space to charters, even though many of the charters have billionaires on their boards. He also defended his record of closing schools with low test scores even though many of the replacement schools exclude low-scoring students.
He didn’t mention the fact that he resigned shortly after the collapse of city test score boasts in 2010, or that he was replaced by hapless publisher Carhie Black, or that the achievement gap remained unchanged during his eight years as chancellor, or that only 22% of voters want more of the same failed policies.

I’ll bet he also did not mention the over crowding that occurred while he was in charge.

Beautiful closing.

Why would he mention what the voters thought? Who cares about THOSE people? It’s investors who matter — INVESTORS, baby, INVESTORS!

It just seems that many of these folks have never understood that we live in a democracy. They decided to align themselves with forces who spend a lot of time demonizing teachers and hoping public schools fail. They failed to build true public support for their policies forcing them where they could despite local opposition. Why are they surprised that after 12 years people are seizing the opportunity to push back?

“Joel Klein and his subordinates, former Deputy Chancellor John White and former Executive Director of the NYCDOE Charter School Office, Michael Duffy, coordinated with Williams and Merriman to raise funds for media campaigns, to lobby legislators, and to collaborate on opinion pieces in the media. These activities, designed to benefit private corporations by increasing the number of charter schools they could operate and their autonomy, used government resources while, simultaneously, Chancellor Klein was mismanaging the public schools he was appointed to improve.”
And…drumroll…Louisiana’s own not-so-superintendent John White, working it with Klein…http://tinyurl.com/mwmrypf

If what happened at LAUSD today is real it is the beginning of the end for them. When a district which has been under their control since “Cowboy Roy Romer” is lost to them they are on the proverbial “One Way Ticket to Hell.” And, that is, truthfully where they belong for what they have knowingly done.

“. . . they are on the proverbial ‘One Way Ticket to Hell.'”
See this entry in my ongoing “Devil’s Dictionary of Education” (with all due Apologies to Ambrose Bierce):
Karmic Gods of Retribution: Those ethereal beings specifically evolved to construct the 21st level in Dante’s Hell. The 21st level signifies the combination of the 4th (greed), 8th (fraud) and 9th (treachery) levels into one mega level reserved especially for the edudeformers and those, who, knowing the negative consequences of the edudeformers agenda, willing implemented it so as to go along to get along. The Karmic Gods of Retribution also personally escort these poor souls, upon their physical death, to the 21st level unless they enlighten themselves, a la one D. Ravitch, to the evil and harm they have caused so many innocent children, and repent and fight against their former fellow deformers. There the edudeformers will lie down on a floor of smashed and broken ipads and ebooks curled in a fetal position alternately sucking their thumbs to the bones while listening to two words-Educational Excellence-repeated without pause for eternity.

I would make a modest proposal. They will eternally listen to their misguided rheeformy logic, compose counter arguments in accordance to the common core writing standards after a close analysis of their arguments, and convince a jury of their fellow reformers to repudiate their life’s work and apologize. They can never do that, so they will never find relief.
