“As a public school teacher in Miami, FL I would like to reach out to you and express my similar hope in developing a long-term coalition and eventual movement of teachers, parents and community to fight back against the pro-corporate anti-public education policies being pushed in FL. If someone knows of any organization or coalition that is already up and running please let me know. There are thousands of disgruntled parents, students, and teachers in schools in Miami whom I think would act and fight back alongside other across the state if there was an entity to unite us. I strongly propose we create this if it doesn’t yet exist.”

Incidentally, by the time I called about about noon EDT, the operator I got was chuckling. I got the impression there had been JUUUUST a few people before me with the same message. LOL

I just called the White House comment line 202 456 1111 & told the operator I wanted Arne Duncan fired and replaced with someone who knows something about education and child development. There’s no joy in teaching and learning and the country needs that back again.

I also just called. The operator said that callers are in the thousands! She also said, “God bless you teachers. You don’t deserve what Duncan is doing to you.” I say, God bless her!

In Florida – There is a very strong coalition of teachers and parents who have been fighting the corporate reform movements for several years. This group has been able to kill the Parent Trigger legislation for the past two years. FundEducationNow is one of the groups and led by parents. They are plaintiffs in a lawsuit against the state per funding issues. Step one of mobilizing should be informing.

In Los Angeles, we have formed Joining Forces for Education. Speakers are being trained to talk at public meetings such as League of Women Voters, AAUW, PTA, Rotary, etc. Also bilingual teams are meeting with inner city parents to educate all about Parent Revolution based on the flawed initiative that has become California law.
Teachers from around the State have contacted me to set up Chapters in their districts. KPFK has offered to do an interview program in the next few weeks on the organization, and how to do the community organizing, but mainly focusing on the damage to schools and communities by the aggressive leadership of Parent Revolution.
Everyone is invited to contact me for more information or to join with us to save our public schools from privatization for profit.

You want to get rid of Arne Duncan. I have the documents to make that happen. He and Senator Feinstein lied to the California legislature for Mayoral control. I have copies of the letters they both sent to the Calif. legislature stating that those who ran Chicago before Daley and Vallas took over in 1995 had put the Chicago Schools into $1.8 billion in debt which Daley, Vallas and Duncan had to clean up. The fact is and I have the pertinent fiancial pages from the 1994 budget to show that when Daley and Vallas took over in 1995 Chicago schools had a surplus. They lied to push their mayoral control agenda.

Here in Florida we have many groups of parents reaching out to everyone and anyone who will listen. http://www.flparentsagainstcommoncore.com is a website for anyone seeking information. We really need teachers to speak out. I know in my county we have a lot of disgruntled teachers but they are afraid to speak in fear of losing their jobs. I respect that but school boards and superintendents all around the state get the feeling teachers are embracing CC. They don’t see what teachers see and it is very unfortunate. There are facebook pages also and that is Central Fl parents against common core and a NE FL group too. We welcome you to voice your concerns and encourage others from around the state to do the same. Thank you for, Florida Teacher for speaking out.
