Jersey Jazzman read Merryl Tisch’s comments about how she understood test anxiety. He wondered how she might identify with such feelings because she never attended a school with high-stakes. Nor did her children.

So we, “just have to jump in the deep end”. Sorry that doesn’t work for swimming and most certainly not for testing. Now, what if we pushed her in the deep end of a pool or body of water with very little warning or preparation? I wonder what would happen and how she would feel. Especially with little warning. Not suggesting…just wondering.

oh what joy for every girl and boy. . .”
Diane,
I just got a flyer in my Kindergartener’s weekly folder with the testing calendar. The calendar gives dates for testing starting April 29th through May 23rd for 3rd through 8th graders. On the back of this testing calendar is the following:
FIELD DAY & BBQ
WEDNESDAY MAY 22nd
PLEASE NOTE – IF YOU ARE NOT HERE ON YOUR SCHEDULED MSP TESTING DAY. [This part is in bold] YOU WILL MISS OUT ON FIELD DAY DUE TO MAKE-UPS. [unbolded] PLEASE BE ON TIME AND BE PRESENT DURING SCHEDULED MSP TESTING DAYS OS WE CAN ALL ENJOY FIELD DAY TOGETHER.
So the children at this school are being threatened with loss of a traditional sporting event if they are absent? How is this right? My own children are still too young for testing but in 3rd grade they will not be tested and if they are forced to miss their Field Day because of this, I will be furious.
Shannon, this is coercion, child abuse etc. Lawyer up!!!
